Klonopin question?

Posted by sedona on October 18, 2003, at 2:56:30

Hello-I have just been given a prescription for Klonopin, to take in addition to my antidepressant, for anxiety. My doctor told me to take .5mg twice a day, up to three times if needed. I have only had the prescription for two days, but so far .5mg seems to knock me out. Has anyone had a similar experience? Should I take .25mg for a while and work my way up, or just try to stick with the .5mg twice a day and hope things will get better?

Thank you

I have had a similar experience with Klonopin. My psychiatrist prescribed it to me, and told me I could take it up to 3x a day. I strongly suggest that you don't take it that many times. Try to only use it when necessary. It made me feel drunk and tired, and it is really addictive (at least for me it was). Elle

Benzo questions will spark varied (and strong) experiences. I think you are asking for good and bad sides to this type of med. I can't speak to Klonopin use with other meds, it is the only med I use. It has been a saver for me. I use .25 - .5mgs per day and have been at that dosage for over a year. It took about 2 weeks for the lethergy and sleepiness to wear off and I was left with the anxiety blocking effects. I have one diagnosis and Klonopin has been the treatment for me. I don't have experience with a benzo use when comorbid with depression.
I wish you the best.

I was on as much as 4 mgs a day at one point and found that I couldn't function. Now when I need it I take .25 mgs and find that I can feel it for well over 12 hours. I don't take it after 3 or I have real trouble getting up the next morning. It's powerful and can help anxiety, but for me is really over-kill. In all honesty, if I'm anxious I take Ativan and if I don't want to deal with anything I take Klonipin. good luck!

I have taken Klonopin .5mg once or twice a day for anxiety. At first (maybe 10days) I felt slightly sedated, after that, for a further week, I had just a "low energy" feeling. All that has stopped and I found I only needed .5mg per day to deal with my anxiety. I did not develop a tolerance to it as an anti-anxiety med. If it is helping your anxiety, try to stick with it. Maybe one dose of .5mg will be sufficient for you ??Apparently, if you are using it as a sleeping medication, you are more likely to need to increase the dose over time to sleep ( as with most sleeping pills, which are usually only to be used for a short period of time, for that reason).
I have seen people here state that they have used the same low dose of Klonopin for years without having to increase the dose!
Good luck :)

I used to have severe panic attacks, and xanax, ativan and inderal used to help me greatly, I hardly ever get anxious anymore, they just ceased on their own? why? I couldnt tell you, i did nothing to help them go away they just did. But I did have some klonopin earlier this year for a little anxiety, (not panic) and i still have some left over i took a .5 last night havent taken one in soooo long months and months. and it did nothing to me, at all, it was equivalent to drinking a glass of water for me as far as any effects.
