Lexapro quits working...

Posted by amarc on September 8, 2003, at 10:35:36

I have been on Lexapro for four months. 10mg worked for the first month and then seemed to quit working. I talked to my doctor and he put me on 20mg. 20mg worked very well for a good two and a half months. My depression is slowly starting to come back though. I am in the same situation I was in a few months back when 10mg quit working for me. This time around the depression seems to be worse and more frequent. Has anyone had this experience with Lexapro? Should I increase my dose or try a different med?

I did well on 10mg into 4th month, then I started feeling the depression comming back, pdoc raised me to 20mg, which I have been on for 3wks. It is my fear that this will happen again. Have not discussed going higher than 20 w/pdoc yet.

Luck to us all!~~~8|8

I would definitely increase it to 30 mg. That may very well be the dose that you ultimately will be able to stick with.

My doc prescribed Wellbutrin to take along with my 20mg of Lexapro - Wellbutrin 150mg for four days, increasing to 300mg on the fifth day.

This will be my second day to take Wellbutrin and this morning I felt a bit 'disconnected' from myself. I mean, perfectly fine, but just had a hazy feeling in my head.

I have read some stories of horrible side effects on Wellbutrin. Has anyone been taking a combination of Lexapro and Wellbutrin for a while? What has your experience with the combination been? Are headaches really that big of a problem with Wellbutrin?

Amarc,

I'm only on 10mg Lex (for 2 months now), so I don't have any answers regarding Lex and Wellbutrin.

But, I really just wanted to wish you luck, and really hope it works for you.

This is the first AD I've ever been on, and have been wondering if it will lose its effectiveness for me, too.

Talked to my pdoc about this the last time I seen her. She said that it really doesn't lose it's effectiveness, it's just that one may experience a situation that may cause depression. So, it may seem the med. isn't working.

Of course, this is just her opinion. I've heard and seen many posts about poop-out, so I'm still wondering. Can I ask you, was there anything happening in your life recently that may have set off your depression? Or, is it, that just after time you need to increase your dose (as it sounds which is best for you). Just curious.

Good Luck,
Arrianna
