CELEXA-weight gain or loss???? or neutral

Posted by angel1 on May 15, 2002, at 20:50:52

Does Celexa cause weight gain? I've been on it since April 20th and don't notice any weight gain, but I read a post where the person said she
gained 30lbs. Any input regarding weight gain or loss is appreciated. Thank you.

Hi! I was on Celexa for about 6 weeks and did gain a lot of weight. However, since I stopped taking it about 2 months ago, I've gained more again, and I think it may be the depression. With Celexa I did feel a compulsion to eat, though. Have probably gained about 15 lbs. this year, which is a lot for me. My weight has always been fairly steady until now.

(I stopped taking it because all of a sudden I became so sleepy during the day that I had to nap, no matter what.)

Hi,
I gained 30 lbs in three months once I started taking Celexa! I went off it after about a year and dropped 15 lbs in 6 weeks! I've got about 15 more to go....

I've been on Celexa since last June. Dropped about 15 pounds and am maintaining. Unlike many people, I ate my way through depression. I now eat sensibly and feel terrific.

HI Calamity,

Thanks for encouraging words. I am glad this drug
is not all about weight gain AND that you are doing well most of all. Congrats on continued freedom from depression.

I've gained at least 10 pounds since I began taking lexapro in February. I'm thinking of going off but I don't want to feel lousy again. Has anyone experienced weight gain or loss with lexapro?

Been on Lex 5 mos., lost 12 lbs. Find Lex has decreased my appetite, don't crave *bad* foods like I used to.

Good Luck!~~~8|8

I started taking lexapro at the end of May and found i had absolutely no appetite at all, i ended up losing 12 pounds. after about two weeks i slowly got my appetite back and have had no significant weight gain. when i told the doctor about my loss of appetite in the beginning she said this was a normal side effect. however, i noticed that some lexapro users on this board did not have this SE - i guess it varies. good luck to you - kinsey
