I think everyone here has probably picked up or read Burns' book ;)

I come for a strong biological background, so I always recommend medication, if you are suffering from agoraphobia, there has been extensive research on the use of Benzos like Klonopin, and long acting Beta blockers, like Inderal LA.

If you aren't into meds, there are many things you can do at home to help yourself, like yoga (yeah, it sounds strange, but it works) And there are online support groups, like this forum.

"How To Stop Worrying and Start Living" by Dale Carnegie. It's a classic - easy reading - extremely helpful. I give it four stars.

Yep 4 stars is the highest rating for a book on amazon I believe. I've been toting my own raggedy copy around for about 20 years and I flip through it on occasion when I need a refresher course. I've tried to get through more complicated books like that Elron Hubbard stuff and I wasn't impressed. I like Carnegie's books the best.

It doesn't talk about specific phobias although it covers a lot on anxiety and stress. It teaches specific methods of dealing with worry and an
all-around better approach to handling life and it's problems. That sounds like a tall order and it is, but the book is brilliant in its simplicity - no jargon, no tests for deep self-evaluation, no cutesy chicken-soup-for-the-soul type writing. Just sound, honest advice that really works.
