Just wondering if there are any other Rhodiola-heads out there.

Hi Michael,
> Just wondering if there are any other Rhodiola-heads out there.
I purchased some a couple months ago, but I haven't tried it (yet?). I thought it looked good on paper, but Larry Hoover told me that it makes him anxious and/or irritable (I forget which), so I set it aside.
What does it feel like in your brain? How much do you take? How long have you been taking it so far?

So I wanted something to get rid of the anhedonia, so I tried several things. Most didn't help, except for amisulpride. But amisulpride caused too much drowsiness & constipation. Then I came across rhodiola rosea.
For me, rhodiola increases my energy levels and and makes me noticeably more talkative and prosocial. I'm definitely more motivated with it. If I had to sum up the experience, I'd say it's an antidepressent that makes me more reactive to the environment. However, I agree with the poster who told you it made him more anxious and irritable is correct b/c reactivity goes both ways. There were a couple times where I skipped my Picamilon doses, and after taking rhodiola (at high doses) I had some feelings of anxiety, and a couple times grew irritable for minor reasons. With Picamilon (or some other anti-anxiety agent), though, it seems like a great additive and I irritability hasn't been an issue.
I take the Arctic Root brand from Sedish Herbal Institute, between 2-3 pills (180mg each) a day. Been on it for about 10 days.
Whatever brand you may decide to get, make sure it's standardized to contain at least 2% Rosavin and Salidrosides, as these are the active ingredients. Later!

Hi Michael,

What dosage of Picamilon do you take and how much time elapsed from the time you started taking it until it induced anhedonia/dysthymia?

P.S. Sorry to deviate from the topic of your thread.

I'd say the dysthymia started about two months after my treatment with Picamilon began. Maybe I was always dysthymic and the social phobia was so powerful that it overshadowed everything. Or maybe it exacerbated the dysthymia (I believe this to be more likely). Anyway, dosing is very important with Picamilon - at 50mg 3X/day, it has tranquilizing (but not sedating) effects, while at 100 mg 3X/day, it has stimulating properties, and can actually cause anxiety. I'm still trying to get the balance right between the Picamilon and Rhodiola. Most times I hit it perfectly and get INCREDIBLE results, other times I get anxiety. I'll let you know when I figure it out. Good luck...

Hi. Yeah i take Rhodiola occasionally. i took it daily for a couple months and it seemed to lose its effect (at least to some degree), but i could be wrong, i may have just gotten accostumed to its effects.
i really don't notice much from it except for one thing-- on Rhodiola i smile and laugh MUCH more than i normally do. i had (& have) the exact same effect from Panax Ginseng. It's quite strange actually. It's not that i feel that much happier at all, i don't think. It's just that things amuse me more and make me smile and laugh. Like it's almost entirely a physical effect rather than psychological. Weird. But yes, this can be useful when in social situations, especially for a depressed, socially anxious person such as myself. At times, however, it can be annoying, as i smile and laugh more than i freaking want to and occasionally even when i shouldn't. Weird.
