HELP ME I FEEL LIKE IM DYING!!!!!!!

Posted by jturner795 on May 16, 2003, at 11:52:12

Long story short...welbutrin for two years (400mg) per day, Last fall re-diag. ADD. Got on adderall and turned my life around. Welbutrin-Adderall combo was too much, fits of paranoia ect. Went to Stratera, didnt do crap for me. Went back on Adderall started Effexor xr. (psydoc told me NOTHING about the side effects, on the same dose now for a couple of months and my concentration is in the gutter, my stomach hurts all the time, Im starting to gain weight back, and just generally feel like crap! I talked with my counselor yesterday and described some very real symptoms of bi-polar disorder that Ive always had and she told me not to worry about it!! This is my first post, but have been comming to the sight for awhile, I have lots of respect for your opinions, Please help!!!, Thanks, Jared

So, your last change was adding Effexor to just Adderall, right? Why did the Effexor get added? It sounds like it might be worthwhile to suggest a backpeddle and taper off the Effexor (or at least reduce the dosage if you are on a high dose) and see what happens-see if you start getting better. You need to tell your pdoc about the "bipolar symptoms", though.

Ive been on a/d's for three years, The effexor was to replace Welbutrin b/c the synergistic affect of welbutrin/ adderall was to much. Ive been on the same dose(150mg) since I started effexor. I feel like It is no longer effective and I am slowly sinking back into the "pit" of depression. Thanks so much for responding. After finding this site I realize Im not suffering alone.

You mentioned beging "re-dxed" as ADD two years ago. Did you start out with WB and then got the ADD dx and then the Adderall was added on? Then you mention that the WB+Adderall was "too much"? How so?--mania/agitation? You started Effexor at 150mg to replace WB afterwards?

Yeah I was diagnosed ADD when I was a child, my father who is a preacher thought I was getting high off of the ritalin or whatever and took me off. I was rediagnosed this past fall after years of "self medicating". The second part of your question, At first with the welbutrin(400mg) and the Adderall(20mg) I had lots of energy to say the least...lol. I would find myself working on my house and suddenly realize how quite it was and wondering if my wife and kids had already gone to bed and the notice it was 3:00 am! Anyway, after a couple of months, I was almost unable to get out of bed in the morning from exhaustion. And I began to have some serious paranoia episodes and some mania. I feel now that I am almost back to square one. As I said before I feel a small spark for maby an hour after I take my meds, It is extremely short lived. I have been on this roller-coaster for months now, and Im starting to feel like Im losing it. I see my Psydoc on tues. Should I ask her to increase my dose? Let me know what you think. Thank you so much for your concern!

Just an opinion, but it sounds like the Wellbutrin was triggering some mild psychosis. It can do that in folks *without* an underlying disorder. Also, you may have "crashed" from the Adderall as well (after you are on it awhile and become a little tolerant + the WB). Just an opinion here, but it sounded like the Effexor was doing something "good", and the high-dose WB sounds destabilizing--what about asking your pdoc about reducing the Wellbutrin from 400 > 200mg and adding back a little Effexor (say 37.5mg XR)?
