It inhibits dopamine at all doses (dose dependantly) However, this effect does not
become pronounced in many till doses over 150 mg.

I don't think it has been established at what dose Effexor's dopamine effects become noticeable/signifigant. Somewhere in the 300-650 range I'm sure... but who knows? Perhaps they never become signifigant. Anyone been on really high doses of Effexor (say, 375-650 mg)? Was there a noticeable dopaminergic effect going on?

Effexor has only a minor effect on dopamine which begins at 300mg/day and higher. And, although 375mg/day is the maximum recommended dose, many pdocs will prescribe up to 450mg/day if circumstances warrant.

The dopamine effect is dose dependant.
It is impossible for a drug to just
suddenly start inhibiting the reputake
at a certain doseage.The thing is that these effects at low
doses are generally weak, and unnoticable.In many cases it is difficult to distinguish
the behavioral effects of dopamine and
norepinephrine. Dopamine works partially
by stimulating the norepinephrine system.So, the reputake is always 'there', but you
are right in that the effect may only be
noticable at higher dosages.Linkadge

I took Effexor XR 450mg/day for 2 months; had to drop back to 375mg because jitteriness did not abate. Stayed at 375mg for almost 18 mo, trying various augmenting meds. Had to drop back to 300mg when I added ritalin. Had to d/c ritalin and reduce E. to 225mg when I added Wellbutrin. I experience no dopamine-additive effect at 225mg E. I'm currently at 225mg E. XR + 300mg W. SR daily. Hope this helps.---medlib
