i've been on effexor for 5 days now and i am absolutely exhausted and my jaw is sore from clenching my teeth all the time. i cannot seem to get out of bed in the mornings and i have to take a late afternoon nap before going to bed. i don't have nightmares anymore though. i'm too tired to have mood swings anymore, but i'm not sure this is the way i want to be. the depression has not gotten any better, but nothing else has seemed to work. lexapro made me almost comatose and wellbutrin kept me up all night long. my effexor dosage increases on monday from 37.5 to 75. am i going to sleep more or will i react differently to it? any words of wisdom?

I can say that Effexor XR has worked REAL well for me!
I also started at 37.5 mg with instructions from my dr to increase to 75 seven days later. But I had a lot of strange reactions (tired, buzzy feeling) so I stayed on 37.5 mg for an extra week. I'm glad I did.
After a few months I noticed some teeth gnawing or more exactly, I noticed a few mornings I woke up with a headache. I asked my dentist and he confirmed the clenching of my teeth at night. He measured and fit a night guard for me. He was very down on the drugstore ones--claimed they did more harm than good, but that the ones from a mold (which he did) gave the entire jaw the proper bite.
Anyway, I started feeling better in the mornings after getting the night guard.
Also, I took the XR in the mornings and gradualy the side effects decreased.

Hi, Just hang in there. I too started on 37.5 mg the first week, then it was raised to 75 the second week, i really didn't notice any difference until the 3rd week when it was raised to 150 mg....and believe me you will feel a differnece...i have much less anxiety and alot less depression. i am still drowsy for a few hours from the effexor, but in the 3 weeks i can see such a difference. i was like you in the beginning, i just wanted some relief and everyone told me to just be patient and it would work, and they were right....i am still not a 100% yet, but i am much better. good luck
