vitamins to increase NGF/BDNF

Posted by linkadge on May 9, 2003, at 16:36:49

Are there any common vitamins that
are used in the production of NGF
and BDNF ? I heard that perhaps fish
oil can do this, are there any others ??

Hi Linkadge,

I don't know about vitamins and such, but exercise has been shown to increase BDNF.

Vitamin D3 (calcitonin, actually a steroid hormone) upregulates NGF, as does North American ginseng. Not sure about BDNF. Both are upregulated by serotinergic antidepressants.

More than you probably wanted to know on the subject:

I've read vitamin company marketing/propaganda that claims that idebenone (a CoQ10 derivative) and the fungus Lion's Mane can increase NGF.

If anyone knows how credible these claims are I'd love to hear your comments.
