Does anyone have any experience with Gabatril? My wife saw a pdoc last week and she started her on Gabatril, 2mg tabs 3 times per day.
What are typical doses and side effects?
Has anyone had any success using it for generalized anxiety or anger outbursts?

I tried Gabitril for two weeks, and it was no picnic. I was started on 4mg twice daily, and at that dose I found it nearly impossible to pee. I'd be in pain, in the bathroom literally all night crying my eyes out because it hurt so bad. In retrospect, it's kind of funny though, lol.
That wasn't what brought me to discontinue it though. At the two week point, I was told to raise my dosage to 8mg twice daily. My first 8mg dose first put me into a catatonic state, then I had a seizure that lasted three hours. I was in the hospital for the duration of the seizure... they had to intubate me, put in a catheter (but my God, it felt so great to be able to get rid of all that urine, lol)... They were unable to stop the seizing though. Eventually it subsided on its own and I awoke in the hospital very disoriented. Took me quite a while to even remember what year it was.
I'm sure my reaction is not a typical one, but I just had to add my two cents here as a note of caution.
Oh, and by the way, during the two weeks I took it, it did *nothing* to help my anxiety.

I found it to have a clear antidepressant effect at 4-8mg single dosages. Anxiety was reduced, but nowhere near as well as Neurontin/Depakote. It seemed to help sleep quality. Dosages higher than 12mg/day seemed to cause derealization. I know they are pursuing a GAD indication for it, but I'm not sure what the dosage level is. Just be careful about titration and dosage.
This is the end of the thread.
