Best time of day to take effexor?

Posted by Joanie on May 7, 2003, at 8:18:07

I've been taking 75 mgs of effexor for a month. Yesterday I started 150 mgs. So far I haven't really gotten any benefit from this drug. I started taking it at night to avoid the sleepy and tired side effects. Should I do this, or should I take it in the morning. Then maybe I'd feel better? What does everybody else do? I used to take Lexapro and absolutely loved it, however I felt like I was gaining weight at an alarming rate. Help!?

I am on the 75mg of Effexor XR, and I have been on it for about 3 months. I was told by my doc to take it before bed, so I have been taking it at 9pm every night. I don't find it hard to sleep at first, but I usually wake up at 5 or 5:30 in the morning and can't go back to sleep. I don't get tired during the day and that is good considering I workout every morning for 40 minutes. I sometimes think my lack of ability to sleep in the morning is because of this, but I still think taking it at night is great. The doc said to do this to cut back on nausea and dizziness. Just my 2 cents.

I take my 150mgs of Effexor mid-morning or early afternoon. I don't experience sleepiness with it as some do.

I have taken it before bed also and haven't had any problems sleeping. I love the vivid dreams these days; I'll attribute them to the Effexor.

I've been on it about 7 months and have found relief from my lifelong depression and axiety. It's not the only AD I've tried, but it is the most effective for me.

Best of luck.
