If you're taking a poll, No, I noticed nothing after about a month on ginkgo biloba. Several senior citizens who've taken it also reported to me they noticed no difference, although the fairly skeptical SupplementWatch.com says there's evidence that it improves cognitive function.

I took it for about 3 or 4 months. I didn't notice much of an effect.

I took it for about a month or so. I found it helped with my sexual dysfunction do to SSRI's. I took 60mgx2. I started Wellbutrin and now I don't have that side effect anymore so I don't have to take the Gingko. I don't know what you were looking for as far as what it has done. Hope I helped.

Not that I have noticed. I think I might try it again since my memory is shot. I'll let you know.

I wrote something -- posted it and it must have taken a wrong turn on the info-highway ... so trying again ... desperate for input from you all.
Jill -- (for anyone really)
I saw the post on Gingko and sexual side effects and since you’re a woman and it helped you I figured I’d ask. I have a thyroid disorder that took 4 years to diagnosis and during that time was on Serzone and then went to Wellbutrin SR (I am still on this). When I went on the Synthroid-T4 it was like a miracle. The Hashimoto’s antibodies kick up and the dose needed to be readjusted. I have ADHD and take Ritalin, in the FYI department as far as meds. I have suffered from atypical anorexia on and off since the early ‘90s when the SSRI’s were just out. I was stuck on Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, etc. None helped (I wasn’t depressed … docs eventually figured out that bulimics benefit more from the SSRI’s) and they all made me within 3-5 days anorgasmic – not just lowered libido, etc. I have been sort of a Murphy’s Law in terms of help problems – almost all complications of the Hashimoto’s being untreated. Surgeries, etc. (hands for Carpel Tunnel, Partial Hysterectomy (I’m 40) last ½ -- have the ovaries), etc. Anyway last August we had a real disaster and my husband sort of closed down and the trickle effect on the two teens, the 7 year old and me. The doc added Cytomel-T3 10 mcg. 12/30/02. I had been also taking Ambien for sleep (hubby snores and has the restless leg and his anger and depression over death of mother …). By mid Jan. 03 my mood was 50+% better; by the first week of Feb. 03 120% better. I had read med articles about the addition of T3 to Synthroid-T4 and mood – and man it worked. On 12/30/02 doc (pdoc) also lowered Synthroid-T4 from 112 to 100 mcg. (Synthroid 6-8 weeks to have full effect, T3 10-14 days). After 7 weeks my mood crashed. But at the same time I got the flu and was in bed three weeks (husband also in the middle down for 10 days) – kids were “ruling” the house. Went to doc mid-March to ask for more T3 (at mood crash – also insomnia back, all that – initially slept like a baby, appetite, exercise, everyone saw this incredible difference). He upped the T3 from 10 to 20 – after one week felt shaky and trouble sleeping (had returned to the Ambien 10 days into flu and mood crash)… pdoc on vacation so I lowered to 15 mcg. for 2 weeks (also had sexual SE’s initially for a week on T3 and then when at 20 mcg. – doc said I’m hypersensitive – everybody’s different). Long to short – back on the 112 mcg. Synthroid and 10 mcg. Cytomel-T3; still on the Ritalin and Wellbutrin SR (150 mg. 2X day) no changes there – he added Effexor XR 37.5 mg (tried this before same result) – I feel somewhat better within 3-5 days but “numb” from the waist down. I feel destined to be depressed OR no sex life (and it is a really good one physically and emotionally and therefore emotionally intimacy, etc. I’m sure everyone knows this) OR gain weight which I haven’t suffered a bout of the anorexia in 2+ years and I just do not want to go there and I turned 40 end of 11/02 and know I can’t cope – even if it is subconsciously (the control thing .. childhood – blah, blah … not the place or time) by not eating. Teen daughter is testing us to the Nth – and stress is at a premium. ANY INPUT will be deeply appreciated. (Have tried low doses of Celexa and Lexapro – same thing.)

It really really improves my cognition. I have almost no cognition at all after be addicted to various street drugs in the past. Ginkgo brings my mind back.

Hi 2- So I started taking Gingko after about a month or so of anorgasmia due to 40mg Prozac. My pdoc tried to add Wellbutrin to counter act the side effect but I freaked out on it for 2 days. Felt like I was on speed. So I did some research online about Gingko. I started 60mg x2 day. I didn't notice anything until about week 2. Orgasms came but full force. LOL. Then again my pdoc wanted me try the Wellbutrin again and i said OK. Ever since I have felt wonderful. I have been on it over a mo. I don't have to take the Gingko anymore. I also have problems sleeping so I take 50mg Seroquel at night. I used to take Ambien but it pooped out on me. Hope I answered most questions. Let me know if I didn't. Best of luck.

Thank you very much. The information was really helpful. I am already on the Wellbutrin SR, and the Ritlalin for AD/HD -- as I already posted. These are often given for to relieve the sexual side effects -- never works for me. I only took the Effexor XR 37.5 for 5-6 days and then stopped about 4 days. I think(?) I felt better after three -- and when things closed down. I still feel 'better' -- even off -- I am probably just as sensitive to the "positive" aspects of the antidepressants that cause the problems. If jumped started me, but I don't think it will last .... we'll see.
Thanks again, really.

Yes. It's subtle but it's there. I once worked 96 hours strait doing intricate computer graphics on Gingko Biloba. I maintained focus and concentration. BTW, there's a good article on Ginko in last month's Scientific American.

I am not sure about the Ginko. I take (have taken) the standardised EGb 761 extract, 3 times 80 mg. The only big surprise was my vision got much clearer and sharper. A drug monograph says it reduces toxic brain edema which pushes on the eye nerve. The indication for EGb 761 is dementia. hmm....
