I take 20mg of Lexapro and 300mg of Wellbutrin daily and now that summertime is around I would like to start getting my FL tan back. I was never given any warnings with either medication and the sun. Does anyone have information or have had and side effects with sunbathing and either one of these medications? I am light skinned (natural blonde/blue eyes) so my skin is somewhat sensitive to begin with. I really miss my tan, but I don't want any type of markings or blotches on my skin. Thanks in advance.

Hi DC -
I don't know of any specific warning about either Lexapro or Wellbutrin and sun exposure. Your pharmacist would probably have good information on that. There are many drugs that do cause increased effects from sun exposure, as well as topical treatments like retin-a and alpha-hydroxy acids.
I'm very fair skinned myself, and I started using self-tanners last year. There are lots of good ones on the market now, and if I can get the hang of them, anyone can :) And the great thing about using them is - no freckles!!(they might be cute when you're 7, but....)
I had to have a melanoma biopsy in my mid-20's (it was negative), so I urge everyone, especially fair people, please stay out of the sun and wear a good sunscreen. It is shocking the effect the sun can have on things. I took down some curtains last year that had black linings. In just a few years the sun had bleached the black fabric to nearly white!
Sorry if I'm hectoring you, DC, but I wish I had stayed out of the sun more. Even if you don't worry about skin cancer, the aging effects of the sun are unbelievable. I understand not wanting to look like a vampire, so check out some self-tanners!
Enjoy summer,
