Since I was a naughty boy (not once, but twice!) I have been thinking seriously about my situation.
This is my progress report Copyright 2003 Mr. Ace Nardil!
1. Nardil 90mg is still working. For depression it is the ULTIMATE - absolutely breathtaking. However, since I have returned to university the phobic anxiety/derealization has been more pronounced. No, Nardil hasn't pooped out, I AM SIMPLY BEING FORCED INTO MORE PHOBIC SITUATIONS WHERE THE ANXIETY IS MORE PRONOUNCED. In the holidays Nardil was working a treat for anxiety - BUT IT WAS BY MY TIMETABLE.
Please don't misunderstand me, The Nardil is still working good for the anxiety - it's just some part of the day (instead of whole day) I'm feeling the dreaded Phobic anxiety/derealization.OK - Nardil still working better than the Zoloft ever did for OCD. But once again we are only talking 40-50-60% relief. Not good enough. Period.
2. This is the big suprise. From my earlier posts you would have remembered I started Lithium. Well I'm still on it. Now 1250mg just shy of 4 weeks. Guess what? It sux. It has done NOTHING - I have barely even had any s/effects. This is the crazy point - 3 plasma tests on 250mg, 500mg, 750mg have all recieved .2 results!!! I think 1250mg will be .2. I guess i'm just not suited to it.
Anyhow, I'm going to be throwing Lithium's fat ass out the door soon if this continues.I've got more options & questions. I'm scared this email will bore the tits off people but please comment or offer advice. More posts are coming!....I LOVE BEING BACK!!!!!!
ACE,
AUSTRALIAN HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF NARDIL!, 90MGTHE AUSTRALIAN LIGHTWEIGHT LOSER OF LITHIUM, 1250MG (SEEMS THAT WAY NOW!)

Ace, you aren't taking some of that "nature" lithium or something are you? What brand are you taking?

I'd like to weigh in here: Topomax is, without a doubt, the most dangerous drug I ever took. I almost went mad also, along with many other problems. That having been said, I don't think Lithium would ever do that. I'm taking Eskalith CR, and it took quite a long time for the therapeutic effects to build up - I'm talking months and months. What type are you taking?Bob

Hi Ritch!,
There is 2 brands here in Australia - I've tried the better one or so says my Dr.I don't know...it's definately a prescription med. It's called "Lithicarb". The one I'm not taking is slow-release and is called "Quilonum SR".
The Lithicarb I take has 250mg tabs (the other has 450mg tabs)
I take 3 at 10am and 2 at 9p.m.=1,250mg.
I used to single dose when on 750mg.Let us know what you think dude, cause it has impressed me about as much as my Mum does on a bad day!
Thanks man,
Ace. (Andrew)

That is interesting how formulations of antimanics in Australia differ than those in the US. Valproate is in 200mg, 400mg strengths (Epilim)-while Depakote here is in 250mg 500mg i.e. Lithium here divides up into 300mg doses (more or less) here and there it is in 250mg increments. It just seeems very strange for your lithium level to stay the same while you increase the dosage. Are you getting any typical side effects like being frequently thirsty and frequent urination? What does your doctor think about this phenomenon?

No, no s/effects at all, except constipation. constipation was on Nardil too, but it cleared up. But when I began the Lithium it came back. That is the only s/effect. I mean it feels as if I am taking a water pill....I'm feeling nothing AT ALL.My doctor thinks I am metabolizing it to quick and 'my stomach is not suited to that pill"
Let me know what you think!

>I agree with your doctor. Try a different lithium preparation and see what happens.
