May I ask what meds are you taking? I had that same experience when my pdoc gave me Sonota for sleep. It was so awful. I don't think I slept for more than a couple hours that night. It made me have really bad nightmares but it felt like they were every 15 minutes so I would wake up. Now I take 25mg Seroquel and that is the only thing that gets me through the night with no fears.

Yes I have had it before, and I strongly
believe it is because of too much dopamine.

Seroquel helped zeliva because of this.
Too much dopamine can cause panic and can
interfere with proper dreaming. Many people
experience this when taking too much fish oil.

I would have the waking up but also weird half
dream/ half sleep where my mind would be racing
to fix some problem during the day, but in reality
what I was thinking made no sence.

What meds are you taking ?

Hey Daizy, how ya doing babe?

K.. that falling feeling when you're trying to get to sleep... had it hundreds of times... was actually a sleeping ritual for me for a few years.

I don't know what causes it... the only thing I do know is that when I take 1mg of Clonazepam it helps me get to sleep without that feeling.

So if it lasts long-term, I would seriously inquire about that.

As to what it actually is though... that falling feeling? Two Doctors have told me so far that they think it's a minor panic attack. Some people only get them when they are trying to fall asleep... but that's it... a panic attack. I would have my eyes shut, and it would feel like the room would slowly start to spin as I was drifting off... then I would just start falling really fast and I would wake right up and my heart would be going nuts...

Anyways, that's what I did to solve that problem with me. Write me soon...

Mike

Wow, I had this exact same sleep disturbance last year around this time. I thought it would never go away, and it did outlast my daytime anxiety, before I started feeling better. It doesn't happen any more now that I am feeling much better.

Linkadge decribed it quite well. I will be trying to solve some nonsensical problem as if it were the most important thing on earth! Then I wake up and realize I was just wigging out. The only time I get this now is when I am studying for a big test!

I think it's just another symptom of anxiety and hypervigilance. Think about it from a biological standpoint. If an animal has been in an extremely stressful situation (let's say, trying to escape a predator), sleep would not be a desirable thing, so your brain wants to do everything possible to prevent that from happening. So basically, our brains are convinced we are about to get munched by a predator! If only we could get our uncooperative brains to realize there is NO DANGER!

I sympathize with you, that is a troubling and strange phenomenon. The good news is tt does tend to go away with good treatment for anxiety.

Good luck,

Matt

Hi Daizy:-)
Yep, I know what you mean.I got this feeling you speak of on Seroquel-I am now used to it as I have been on it for about 3 years.I got scared too-but if you are still getting a pulse try not to worry-and also talk to your doc.
Are you still on the Effexor? Any other meds?
Look forward to hearing back from you,
HANG IN THERE:-)

Hi, May I ask if 25mg only of Seroquel really helps you? I was first put on it at 100mg, then went to 200mg-and had BAD side effects(weight gain, bloated, and especially foggy!) I am now just taking 100mg-but that seems like a lot compared to your 25mg-I would much rather take only 25mg. Seroquel really gets me through the night-but over time it seems I sleep better when taking 200mg-but then feel groggy-thus going down to only 100mg.
I would really appreciate any feedback.
Thank you for posting:-)

Hey I think you might be right about the fish oil! My bottle finished last week and I got some new capsules, like extra strength ones, they have helped to keep my mood steady, but the sleep thing started when I got these new ones, So it must be that, and also Im taking them in the afternoon instead of the morning like I did before. I'll start taking them in the morning and see if it helps. Thanx, I'd never have thought it would be related to that!

Thanx, atleast I know its not just me being weird! It is like a mini panick attack. I did think it was the meds but it must be the fish oil! I think more exercise will help too, that way I'll be looking forward to getting to sleep rather than dreading it!

> I think it's just another symptom of anxiety and hypervigilance.

I got this once in awhile before I was ever anxious, and I get it now, once in awhile. I don't think it has to do with meds; I just think some meds can't prevent it.

It doesn't ever happen when I take Sonata; I'm usually out like a light within fifteen minutes. The falling thing happened just the other night. I jerked my legs awake, then rolled over on my side and went to sleep.

Try not to give it so much importance (easier said than done). It's not actually a panic attack; it's more like a bad dream that awakens you in a panic, but that panic is usually short lived for me, so I can go right back to sleep.

Doesn't this usually happen while you're lying on your back? I don't think I've ever jerked awake on my side!

Hey Kristen-- I started out on only 25mg of the Seroquel. A couple of nights at around 1am I have had to take 50mg but that is all. Even with me taking 25mg I am still really groggy in the morning. You might want to try to take 50mg and see if you fall asleep. You take other meds at night correct? I started taking 100mg Provigil(half the regular dose) on Wed. and I have never felt better. I have so much energy. Yestarday I even went on a bike ride by myself which is a big thing. I am always worried I will run into someone I know and then I have to explain my whole life story to them. I don't know, it's weird. What state do you live in if I may ask. I Don't have a clue where anyone lives on here except for Ace(because of posts). I live in the California bay area. Good luck. Oh yeah did you go to Target?

Hi Jill:-)
Thanks so much for your reply! I live in California too!
Yep, I take all my meds at night. After getting so much feedback from these posts-way more than I have gotten from my psychiatrist, I am thinking of this combo-
Effexor 75mg, 1mg Klonopin, eventually upping Lamictal from 50mg, and am going to slowly start 50mg of Seroquel-all at night. What do you think?
Oh, and BTW, since I've started only 100mg Seroquel, I wake up less bloated AND I have lost 4 Lbs. So, I'm wondering, I may just be getting there. I hope! Yes, I did go to Target, but what I saw, I thought had a video, and get this, I think I'm too fat to be balancing on a ball. LOL But, I am still going to consider it. It looked great and I hear soooo many good things about yoga. It was the "Beginner" kit right??? That's all I could find at Target.
I didn't buy it though. Keep eggin me on would you?:S please? I need that-BAD
What is Provigil??? Is it new? What is it used for?
Looking forward to hearing back,
Kristen

The Provigil is given to people who have narcolepsy (when you are really tired during the day). I was scared that if I took it it would give me insomnia at night or make be hypomanic. I don't have any side effects from it. I can't explain it, it just makes me more motivated and have energy. Not wired like other stimulants. I heard it is really exspensive. My pdoc gave me samples to try. I see him on Tues. so hopefully he will give me a Rx. No one is too fat to do yoga silly. I am not a small girl either. Size 16. I always fall over but I am getting better balance.
Do you really need to take the Clonapin at night? That is for anxiety right. A benzo? I used to take Xanex at night and now I don't need it do to the Seroquel. What area in Ca do you live?

I know where you are coming from. When I first started effexor, the first two weeks, I had the same feeling and when I was awake I felt like I had drank 20 pots of coffee, it was an awful feeling they then gave me rhovane to sleep but the after taste was almost unbearable, has anybody else been on Rhovane and had that bad after taste? But fortunately after about two weeks all those feeling stopped.

Definately take Fish in Morn

I've just been doing a little experimentation
with my fish oil. Regardless of what people
say, it does have a stimulating effect - not
mind racing stimulating - but just wanting
to get things done stimulating. It's great
for lack of motivation.

But, taken too close to bed - it doesn't
make it hard to fall asleep (like caffene)
- but it makes it difficult to stay asleep,
let go, it seems to give you vigilence, something
you don't need before bed. To sleep well
you need complete 'let go' before bed.
Thats why AP's work for sleep (in some)
because they decrease motivation and promote
let go by blocking certain dopamine curcuits

Lithium, vitamin C, etc, can also work to
lower this dopamine.

Smokers taking nicotine patces get the exact same reaction - vivid dreams - active dreams - panic awakenings. Nicotine an MAO(B) raises dopamine too much during the
evening.

Take your uppers in the morning
and your downers at night.

Good Luck

Hi, I haven't been on Rhovane you speak of-BUT I'm getting an after taste with the Lamictal and , I think, the Effexor both of which I just started last week-Why do meds do this sometimes? Your guess is as good as mine:-)
Take good care,

Hi Jill:-)
LMAO Well....... I thought I might bust the ball or something:( Wouldn't want that to happen. I'm about 60 overweight and am going to try to get it off. Right now, yes, I do need to take the Klonopin at night-2mg-eventually try to get down to 1mg. It is for panic attacks originally or panic disorder, etc. Yes, It is a benzo.
I hope I can get off Klonopin one day and maybe let the Seroquel and Lamictal do their thing for me to get a restful night's sleep. I live in Southern CA.
Keep in touch,
Kristen:-)
