I found this article so interesting that I thought I would bring it to your attention. It is taken from a meeting held in Vancouver in April 2002 addressed by Dr David Horrobin,a British researcher who has been interested in fatty acids for over 20 years. We are what we eat and we are eating the wrong foods for our brain.See details on http://weeksmd.com/articles/psychiatry/Depression_and_Schizophrenia__Essential_Fatty_Acids.pdf

. . and is a diet free of DHA safe? And if it's a DHA-free capsule, what about DHA from other items in our diet?

I thought this article by Horrobin on Depression with a seperate section on Schizophrenia and the effect of a proper diet on each would bring on more contributors. It is quite heavy stuff but reducing the need for (but not the total elmination) of antipsychotics for example would be beneficial from many points of view. The subject of schizophrenia rarely crops up on this board but most of my schizophrenic patients work thanks to fish oil as against 20% in the normal course of events.
