SP Procrastination Klonopin

Posted by k23d on December 4, 2002, at 21:24:48

Do others with SP have difficulty getting motivated, procrastinate about anything which may have a social outcome and have difficulty concentrating? Or is it just me?

For those who have SP and have successfully used klonpin to get over it, how did you find it affected your procrastination / motivation / memory and concentration?

That's really stretching your SP diagnosis. Bring up your problems with your doc. If it's disabling, started before you were 7, and other things are met, you may have ADD. 20% of those who have ADD also have anxiety.

I'll bring it up next time.

Quite seriously though, I don't have any problem concentrating or motivating to do tasks that don't involve a social aspect somewhere on the timeline.

But one's that do, I'll procrastinate about for ages.

I thought this was fairly normal of social anxiety. Jeez I hope I don't have ADD too. A benzo would pretty much F me right over then...

I take 2mg Klonopin and it works great for my social anxiety. I don't find myself avoiding social situations but I'm not motivated to have them either. I am motivated at the gym and am able to do lots of exercise. But my motivation and procrastination with schoolwork has just been awful. Since starting the Klonopin a month ago, I have barely done any work. I feel bad about it, want to work, but I always find there's something better to do. I gotta figure out how to get motivated with my schoolwork cause I want good grades, and I worked really hard this quarter besides November.

Despite this, I would never give up the Klonopin. It has given me an internal peace that would be very painful to give up. Peace of mind is precious.

Hi!

I have exactly the same problem, I take clonazepam 2-3mg daily and it really kills my motivation. Iīm also studying at a university and have no motivation, I want to study but I donīt have enough strength to do it. I donīt want to quit taking clonazepam because it helps my social anxiety/phobia, but I also need to pass the courses so at the moment it feels a bit hopeless. I havenīt been going to school for several weeks now, and done no schoolworks.

Donīt know what to do about it, as usual.. If you come with something please let me know.

Social anxiety is one of the few anxiety disorders (maybe only) that has definite implication of dopamine dysfunction. Theres a fair bit of info supporting this. I have social anxiety and I find it hard to be motivated or to get anything done at all. Im not taking anything right now, but for me both ritalin and dexadrine were complete 100% cures for all my symptoms, but there effects always diminish and then disapear after a day or two. Four years of searching and havent found anything very useful. But of course others have, and most will say klonopin is the king (maybe nardil too). So if you dont have problems focusing and getting motivated on other things, I would say try klonopin, probably best dose is 2mgs. CBT could help too, but I havent tried it myself (not available.) but maybe its your disapointment in social situations that causes your lack of motivation. Hope this helps, TOm

I had to have an antidepressant with my Klonipin (clonazepam) for it to work well. A good dose of Klonipin (say 2mg's a day) with a good dose of an atypical antidepressant...(I found Effexor best..but there are others too, like Serzone and/or Wellbutrin..)

It takes a LOT of experimentation...and I am going into my tenth year with this, and sometimes it is still hard as hell. But, you WILL have many good days also, especially when you find a comfortable combo, but remember, it won't make you BETTER than 'normal' (whatever 'normal' is...but in other words, don't use it to make you 'superhuman'...because you will still have 'burnout' days.)

Good luck,
Jay
