starting klonopin dose/with an MAOI

Posted by Bobbiedobbs on November 14, 2002, at 14:25:32

Hi - I am a long-time MAOI user who was recently prescribed a starting dose of 1 mg/day of Klonopin along with the Parnate. I am concerned about fatique/sleepiness particularly as I am teaching. Has anyone had experience with (a) these two meds combined - successful for social anxiety/OCD? b) starting Klonopin dose in general re fatigue? A doctor/friend of mine said that .5 mg (half of the 1 mg) would be a begin starting dose.

I took Klonopin for a while with Parnate. I started at .5mg as well. I found it to be a fairly strong sleepy drug. I actually switched back to Trazodone because I prefer the results. But I know some people don't like Trazodone.

If you're concerned with being too tired, I would definitely start with the lower dose and bump it up if necessary.

I've never been made drowsy by klonopin, but many people are. Most people become acclimated to klonopin's sedating characteristics but thankfully not to it's anxiolytic effects, with time.

If your nervous about it try starting at .5mg. Remember though there are lots of people with Panic Disorder who take 6-8mg of klonopin a day and have no trouble driving or getting on with their lives in other ways.

Feel Better,

Britt
