For clarification, was that 9% of the males or 9% of all participants?

the shortness of breath/itchiness that curious guy mentioned sounds a lot like I feel when my allergies are kicking in. Since neither is listed as being commonly reported s/e's, it's possible that these symptoms are totally unrelated. Also, when I feel stress/anxiety, I do feel short of breath also. Anyway, just my two cents.

Dizziness, nausea, the nausea is the worst. If my stomach gets empty I feel close to losing it. I just started the Lexapro a week ago. So I am not used to it yet. I was on Effexor (spelling) for close to six months, maybe more. It just wasn't doing anything anymore.

I switched from Celexa to Lexapro about 2 weeks ago. I think it's making the Wellburtin ? and Neourtin ? kick in harder. Almost died from the withdrawal of Celexa-- 30Mg. This is the best clinical trial you can have, with real results. Sorry about the spelling, wasn't near the jars.

I started on 10mg Lexapro about 2 weeks ago. Prior to this I was taking 150mg of Effexor, which was adequetly relieving my anxiety and depression, but had unwelcome side effects.

I am pleased that I feel no side effects with Lexapro, but I am not feeling much in the way of anxiety/depression relief with it. Is it time to ask my doctor about trying a higher dosage? How long should I give this?

This is not true, you can look at the baseline MADRS CGI and HAMD scores to determine how depressed the population is.

> We need more drug clinical trials where the people recruited are those with SEVERE melancholia type major depression, not dysthymics and moderate depressives.

Gorman did a subanalysis of severe depressives (see Gorman et al., 2002, CNS Spectrums) as part of the Lexapro pooled trial. Also, Gorman did an analysis of severe depressives that was presented at the recent CINP meeting in Montreal.

** you said 1 wk now for lexapro...did you just stop effexor? what dose?...dizziness and nausea can occur from abrupt discontinuation from effexor (and paxil). hopefully you can hang in there...do you see any benefits from lexapro yet?

** good q...glad you are experiencing better tolerability...here's the scoop. lexapro 10mg works in 1-2 weeks for most people, but as i have found, that's only a general statement to most here...for a fair trial, give it 3-4 weeks, if still not doing it, bump to 15mg for a couple weeks, then only higher if still not quite working.

Generally, those types of figures are sex-specific. I.e., the demoninator would be men only.

Yes, I've been on Lexapro (10 Mg) for 2+ weeks. My doctor switched me from Zoloft which I was taking for panic and depression. I have been sleeping better on the Lexapro and no more delayed orgasm! Yippee! I feel great. Lots of energy and really can't identify any side effects.

I have tried Serzone, Effexor as well as Zoloft and had delayed orgasm on all of these drugs.

What is the best time to take

This is my first post here. I have been on Remeron (45 mg) for 3 years. My doc wants me to try Lexapro. My main problem is extreme anxiety. I tried the Lexapro (5 mg.) a few weeks ago but quit after 3 days because of side effects. I want to give it another try at 2.5 mg. because of reading that the side effects may go away after 4-5 days. My question is, what is the best time of the day to take it. Would appreciate any input.

Thanks,
Cody

I'm surprised you had any side effects at all from Lexapro at 5 mg. Are you sure it wasn't withdrawal from Remeron? In any case, they will almost certainly go away. For me, it doesnt matter what time I take it, but if the side effect is drowsiness, take it at night, and vice versa.

Not sure if it was Remeron withdrawal. I'm down to about 22.5 mg right now. I think that I'm very sensitive. Had to increase my Remeron very slowly. With the Lexapro, I was very nauseous, headache, spaced out feeling and my heart was racing. Can't afford to be down for long. Have husband and 4 children to take of. But I think I have to give it another try, because although the Remeron really helped with the anxiety, I have no energy or motivation for life. Doc told me to increase ativan while I'm adjusting to Lexapro. I really hope it works.

This is for Pharmrep or anyone: I have been on lexapro for 18 days at 10mg. Stopped taking Celexa around Nov 01 due to thinking it added to my protatisis probelm which I still have. I was on Zoloft 100mg for 7 or 8 years and switched because it wasn't working quite as good but was working. Anyways I started Remeron 15 mg and my protatisis (seems to be related to tension) got much better for a week and when I tried to raise it my vision was blurry so could'nt go to 30 mg which is what I needed. When lexapro came out I wanted to try it. It seems to stimulate me alot (or the prostate area) and I take it in the morning 5mg and 5mg in afternoon and 7.5 Remeron at night. My prostate seems to tightened up more on all the antidepressants except Remeron which is very sedating ( which I don't like) DO you think it will get better after a month or any suggestions from anyone. If I take Xanax with it that helps my prostate condition too but being a recovering alcoholic can't take that much and doctor wouldn't give me much either.
Thanks everyone for your time

Cody, don't give up yet!!
I went on Lexapro for anxiety too.
I started with 5mg and had horrible nausea and heart palpitations.
I also found 5mg did nothing to help the anxiety.
After 5 days at 5mg, I bumped the dose up to 10mg.
After just 5 or 6 days at the 10mg it helped the anxiety.
The nausea is gone now, and the heart palpitations
happen only occasionally. I think try and be fair
to the drug and give it two weeks for your body to adjust.

The only continuing side effect I have is some insomnia.
I'm now taking the medication in the morning and it has
helped some.

Good luck!!

Alaskagirl, thanks for your support. Sometimes I feel like I'm groping in the dark. It's good to hear other's experiences. I started Lexapro at 5mg. this morning. Decided against doing the 2.5mg. Rather get the adjustment over with. So far, so good. Not too many s/e. Mild headache, tightness in chest, some palpatations. Will keep you posted.

Thanks again!

I have been reading this board for months and never posted. I was on 20mg Celexa and loved it except for the sexual s/e (I am female - no orgasm). So I tried 10mg of Lexapro for 3 weeks, no s/e but very high irritability and irrational screaming/yelling YUCK - so my Dr. has increased me to 20mg as of yesterday. I can't find anyone else on this dosage. Just looking for some support. Thanks.
