First day of Lexapro

Posted by PSIBasic on September 26, 2002, at 9:40:43

I have been reading the post since I started taking this med yesterday.

It's nice to know that some of these side effects will go away in a few days (i hope). Was sweating like a pig yesterday, slept for hours, didn't quite wake up, and this morning I am shakey.

Did anyone have the shakes in the morning?

Does alcohol of caffiene cause any problems. I am not a big drinker, and since I am going to be on this for 6 months, I would like to know I can have a glass of wine or a beer from time to time.

Shakes would be a typical side effect of ramping up on any SSRI. They should go away in a few days. I would start out on 5mg (cut the pills in half) and increase to 10mg when used to 5.

People say different things about alcohol and an SSRI. My advice would be to drink nothing for six weeks or so until the antidepressant benefits have kicked in fully and the the adverse side effects have calmed down. Then a couple of drinks now and then would do no harm. Be careful at first to see if alcohol hits you any harder.

Thanks much for the advice.

Dr. has me starting off on 10mg. I am taking a couple days off from work, which is good because of the shakes and I am so tired. Most of the other posts say that the s/e's should diminish in a few days which will be even better since I go back to work on Monday.

I would assume that the dizziness is a part of it too.

Thanks again.
