I was taking Paxil for about 9 months and gained over 50 pounds. When I finally realized that it had to be the meds, my doctor switched me to Wellbutrin. I want to know if there is anyone out there that has taken a diet supplement while taking Wellbutrin. If so, please fill me in. I just want to take something to help me lose this weight faster. I'm not used to being overweight so I am having a hard time coping.

how long have you been on the wellbutrin? are you supplementing with the wellbutrin or taking it solo? most people (there are always exceptions) lose weight with wellbutrin because they have more energy but mainly because it takes away your urges to eat and you just forget to do it even if you smell yummy food sometimes.
i don't know why diet pills would be helpful in this situation. i also question if it would be good considering wellbutrin is activating as are many diet pills. ie: it would be like doing the same thing twice.

Terra,
Thank you for your input. I have only been on Wellbutrin for 2 months and I do notice that my appetite has decreased tremendously. But when I started the WB I didn't ever feel the need to smoke. I never quit completely, but I couldn't finish a whole cig. But it seems like the longer I am on this pill the more I have the urge to smoke. I am hoping that my appetite doesn't do the same thing. I know I probably don't need an appetite suppresent, I was thinking more like a fat burner. Which I could probably find in some kind of herbal supplement. But I have heard that some herbs aren't very safe either.

it sounds like you are in the beginning stages of suppressed appetite. (of course everybody is totally different) it depends if you are at your therapeutic dose, too. 2 months is a little early, unless you got it right fast in which case i give you thunderous applause. i wonder if your urge to smoke has anything to do with increased anxiety or fidgetiness ... wellbutrin is activating. i quit smoking while on wellbutrin but it was because it made me nauseous to think about it. don't know if it's that way with others or not. but i do know that in the early months i had to adjust to that feeling of being activated. wellbutrin is also constipating, so if you are trying to lose weight you'll want to keep that in mind specifically if you choose to try those "absorbs the fats and they pass right through you" pills... you could really get clogged up if you aren't careful. (hope that wasn't too blunt.) make sure you drink plenty of water.

p.s. there's an interesting dieting thread on PSB if you want to read there.

I was thinking more like a fat burner.
"Fat burners" only exist on infomercials and don't work.

**I can empathize with not being used to being overweight. I'm petite (around 5'1") and always weighed, at the most, around 110 lbs. I gained 10 lbs. on Serzone and another 20 on Depakote. Talk about devastating! I told a friend, "I've never weighed this much in my life except when I was pregnant!" I'm on Wellbutrin now and starting to lose weight. I recently read an article about a study done (on women) wherein Wellbutrin was used in addition to something like Slim-Fast, I believe it was. The article is here:
