Hi everyone! I have posted many times in the past and most recently posted an article about ondansetron and its affects on alcoholics. Since I have found that the medications that address my genetical problem with alcoholism, I have ran across a medication called tiapride that looks very promising in treating alcoholics. This med is considered a neuroleptic which antagonises D2 and has been widely available in europe.
I am interested in trying this medication. Does anyone know where this med is available? Thanks so much.
Ryan

Tiapride is used for alcoholism? I was once given a prescription for the drug in an attempt to determine whether breathing problems I had were a result of TD so it is probably also used for tardive dyskinesia. Never tried it, though, since I found out it was a neuroleptic...
As for where it is available...didn't really understand if your intention was to access this drug on your own and self-medicate? Does your psychiatrist know you intend to try this medication?Take care,
Kari.

Hi Kari,
I hope that I can clarify myself. I am looking to use Tiapride as a form of self medication for my genetic predisposition towards alcoholism. I have had great success with the 5ht3 antagonist Ondansetron, which I ordered overseas, and want to add to this triumph. Take a look at this months post entitled, "Tremendous strides with Ondansetron"; this will also shed some light on my situation. Thanks for the help.

Kari,
I forgot to mention--in your last post you said that you were about to use tiapride but held off once you discovered that the drug is a neuroleptic. Were you perscribed this drug from a doctor in the US. I am having a hard time discovering if this med is fda approved. Thanks

Hi,
I wasn't prescribed this drug in the U.S. and am sorry I don't know if it's available there.
As far as Europe is concerned, I ran a search on the internet and am almost certain it is available in France and possibly also in Germany.
I wish you good luck and hope that if you do manage to order it, you decide to take the medication under some kind of medical supervision. All the best,
Kari.

Have you investigated this drug for alcoholism recovery. It looks like it's available in Europe from Merck, and will be marketed in the US by Forest at some point.
