Dear Dr. Kramer, what are your thoughts on formally merging psychiatry into Neurology in the future? I personally believe severe mental illness to be a brain based, chronic type illness and could possibly be better diagnosed and treated by a more Neurological approach.

Also, when is psychiatry ever going to develop some real medical tests to improve accurate diagnosing?

> Old SchoolI agree, but I think that it's important to note that as we learn more in Western Medicine, we tend to specialize more, and "merge" less, as there's just too much for a single practitioner to master. My guess of the future is that we will have more disease-specific docs, like a "Mood Disorder" or a "Multiple Sclerosis" doc as opposed to a Psychiatrist or a Neurologist.
