Hi All...
after reading so many messages about Celexa withdrawal, I have decided to discontinue it now.
I was on 20 mg for 2 weeks, and 40 mg for what will be 4 weeks tomorrow. So it's been 2 days shy of 6 weeks total.
Am I likely to experience the same symptoms as someone that has been on for a longer period of time? I plan on cutting my dose to 30 mg tonight and take that for a week, then 20 for a week, then 10 for a week then 5 mg for a week. Does anyone think this is a good taper schedule?
I don't want to go through the hell that has been described by others that have been on this medication for longer time periods. I think I am lucky to have found out about the withdrawal so early into my treatment. Hopefully I won't have too much difficulty getting off of the medication.
Please give me whatever advice or info you can. I am pretty scared.
I wish the best for all of you.

Co,
You will know if you are going too fast because you will experience withdrawal symptoms.
If you do have any weird or uncomfortable feelings, just go back to the last dose that you felt OK on, and stay there for another week or two, then try again.
Also, it helps if you can make the dose decreases as little as possible.

Co:Why were you placed on an SSRI in the first place? Is it addressing your problem? What do you plan to take if you come off of Celexa? I have to warn you that from personal experience, none of the SSRIs (as well as Effexor) are easy to come off of, and Celexa certainly is not the worst. I would venture a guess that Paxil, Luvox, and Effexor are all substantially worse. Tricyclics and MAOIs are sometimes not easy to get off of either for some individuals. Of course, experience varys with the individual.

I was put on Celexa <the third med I was on trial with> but had raging cryin jags...after about 3-4 weeks I stopped it cold turkey. I didn't have any withdrawal at all. BUT, I may be one of the very few this has happened to, so I warn you not to do this. Taper off the med slowly. If needed get a pill cutter, so you can cut the pills down in quarters. That way you can slowly cut back, and hopefully *NOT* have any withdrawal. And be sure to talk with your doc about tapering off.
Blessings,
RhainyC
