Hey Christophre,
After reading your posts, I am starting to think we are twins. I have responded to nardil very well in the past. I am also trying selegiline now. Currently I take
Klonopin 0.5 mg at night
Neurontin 300 mg twice a day
Selegiline 5mg three time a dayHow has you experience been thus far? What dose are you on?

Hey bro',

> Selegiline 5mg three time a dayAre you taking Neurontin for anxiety? Is it working? It's something I've been considering for a while.
> How has you experience been thus far? What dose are you on?I haven't noticed anything so far. I've been on it for about two weeks at 20mg/day. I'll probably have the dose raised to atleast 30mg soon -- 30-60mg is usually the dose range required for an antidepressant response. Have you felt anything at 15mg?

Hey Brother,
> Are you taking Neurontin for anxiety? Is it working? It's something I've been considering for a while.
Yes, for anxiety. It cuts through my anxiety like a hot knife through butter. In fact, too much neurontin and I feel too disinhibited.
Have you felt anything at 15mg?Yes, mild increase in energy, I think from the convertion of selegiline to its amphetamine metabolite. But no elevation in mood.

Question: Does the pharmacy give you a hard time getting a non FDA approved dose of selegiline? Do they call you pdoc?
Thanks. Lets keep in touch!

Very interesting! I'll have to keep it in mind.

I had the increase in energy for a few days, but it gradualy disappeared (although I'm not as fatigued during the day as I was before).

Not yet... I bet they will once I increase the dosage. (Surprisingly, I didn't get any "YOU have Parkinson's?" questions.) The only problem I had was finding a pharmacy that carried it.

Indeed.
Good Luck,
Chris

Hey Chris,
I forgot to ask, if you don't mind, why you decide to come off nardil? For me it was:
20 pound weight gain
sexual dysfunction
insomnia
memory difficultiesDid you experience these side effects?
Any advice on managing these side effects?I also wanted to drop the nardil for awhile and try a mood stablizer, lithium and lamictal, to see if I was bipolar. No effect on either so I went to selegiline/neurontin/klonopine. Thanks. I hope things are going well with selegiline.

My reasons for discontinuing Nardil are somewhat similar to yours: weight gain, short-term memory loss, concentration difficulties, and fatigue.
If I go on Nardil again, I'll probably add a stimulant. I had some insomnia at first, but anything I added would cause hypersomnia (something with a short half-life, like Ambien, might have worked better). A decent compendium of the treatment of MAOI side-effects can be found at http://www.vh.org/Providers/Conferences/CPS/19.html .
Interesting that you mention the possibility of bipolarity... I've often wondered myself, but haven't had a decent mood stabilizer trial. I'm still not sure which to treat, the diagnosis or the symptoms.
Today I'll raise the selegiline dose to 30mg, hopefully it'll start taking effect.
-Chris
P.S. - do you take the selegiline capsules or tablets? Brand, or generic?
This is the end of the thread.
