I am concerned because my doctor switched me from Zoloft (100 mg) to effexor (75 mg) because of the weight gain i was experiencing. I have noticed NO decrease in appetite and am GAINING weight on effecxor. Is it because my dose is too low? I have been on it for about 2 weeks. Please help.

I've taken between 75-150 mg of Effexor for the past 3 years and haven't noticed weight gain because of it. I personally think it's a really great medicine because it has so few side effects. I once tried taking Zoloft but it made me really jumpy (my diagnosis is bipolar II). I say stick with Effexor for a bit longer and see if something else is causing the weight gain.
Best of luck to you!

I've lost weight with Effexor, after having gained with Celexa. You may want to give the Effexor some more time. I do think - for you - that it may have something to do with the dosage. Everyone is so different!

I've lost 12 1/2 lbs on Effexor. But that weight loss didn't start until I was at the 150mg dosage.

I came off Efexor because I couldn't stop sleeping and eating. I'm now on Celexa. Has anyone else tried both of these? I really cannot handle any weight gain (I have had problems with food - although nothing as bad as when on Efexor - in the past, and am already overweight)- help!

Hi Bev, I was on effexor for a year. I am a very active. I exercise everyday I had changed nothing but to get on effexor and gained 10LBs before I asked to be weaned off.
