I am considering taking Wellbutrin for depression. Is it the case that one should not consume any alcohol whatsoever when taking Wellbutrin, not even an occasional beer or glass of wine?

Hi,
The biggest concern is if you do any "binge drinking" where you consume several drinks in one sitting and then get hungover the next day. The "seizure threshold" goes up while you drink (alcohol has anticonvulsant activity)-but it goes down a lot when the alcohol *withdraws* from your system-that is when the seizure risk is the highest. That is what docs are worried about-you drink a 12-pack at a party and then you are hungover the next day and take 150mg of Wellbutrin and when it peaks the seizure risk is at its highest.
