I'm on my way home from work and a commercial comes on the radio for this new miracle depression medication. It's called Happinix or Happinise or Happy something... I didn't have a pen and paper and they didn't spell it anyway. They claim to have done testing and it's not like alcohol or valium that leaves you feeling tired and worn out. It it relieves you of your depression, picks up your spirits, fills you with energy and makes you ready to face the day. Honestly, it sounded like one of those cheesy used car commercials. I wish I could have gotten some more specifics.
I'm just curious if anyone has heard this commercial or has heard anything about this med? One thing for sure, the ad was uplifting, I had a good laugh.

Have you seen the animated ad for zoloft? It is amusing and a bit scary to me at the same time.

No, I haven't seen that, but I will keep my eyes open for it. Seems like they're advertising anything and everything these days...the almighty dollar.
It's good to hear from you Noa, I hope everything is well for you.

All the ads I've seen or heard (television, magazine, radio, etc...) have been amusing to me. The grossly oversimplify the treatment of depression, and lead people to believe that taking these drugs is like taking aspirin for a minor ache. They would also lead you to believe that no trial and error would ever be necessary, as if any of the drugs out there are that successful. I also think about how much discomfort the side-effects of these drugs have brought me, and feel sorry for anyone who may not have that serious of a problem, but would be lulled into taking these drugs by the ads.

Greg - I believe the generic name of the drug is "soma". I hear that it works great. It is manufactured and distributed by Orwellian Drug Co. (1984) Ltd. - Cam

One thing for sure, the ad was uplifting, I had a good laugh.I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but I also heard a commercial on the radio about a new therapy for depression. The name of it is Hapizan. I called the 888 number to get some info. The represenative was really singing the praises of this product. I told him I was interested in this product because what I'm currently taking (Zoloft) makes me feel like a zombie. Of course he had been on Zoloft also and it made him feel the same plus aches and pains. Now that he's been on Hapizen, he feels great and HAPPY ALL THE TIME! Anyway, I asked him what was in it. He said, " All kinds of good stuff. Catnip, Valerian, Amino Acids, etc. I felt that he was very vague about the ingredients and I don't really want to buy something if I don't know what's in it! So, bottom line, it's $79.00 a month. He was a very good salesman, but I'm a bit skeptical. By the way, I did try to look it up on the net with no results. Hpoe this helps! Good luck!

> PeteyOk folks!!! Let's add some reality here. This sounds like an herbal preparation. These can help. I use herbs too, at the advise of my pdoc.
"Take Hapizan and be happy all the time?"
Um, yeah, sure.. I just want to be stable. I do not want to be a happy drone who has only the feeling of happiness. I don't want to giggle at my parent's funeral. I would like to have the appropriate emotions for the appropriate situations.
Don't get me wrong. I like being happier on my meds. And I like having my full range of emotions without having them control my life, like before I was in therapy and had no meds.
"he feels great and HAPPY ALL THE TIME!" Anyone claiming this from an herbal supplement must either be lying or they must be on something illegal. That claim just sounds like nonsense.
"Caveat Emptor"
Buyer Beware!I'm not saying not to try it. I am saying that we all need to be careful of the marketing messages. They always make great claims and they never mention that their med won't work for everyone. As a person who is recovering from Depression and OCD I can be very impressionable when I am under the influence of my illnesses. When I make decisions from that space I make sure that I get a professional opinion so that I do not make it worse.
Take Care!

Yeah I heard the commercial too! I had to laugh
at it because it talked about "Would you like to
be in a state of constant euphoria, but also calm
and serene and peaceful?". It made me laugh picturing
someone euphoric yet peaceful.

Simcha,
I know exactly what you mean. I am very impressionable, too. That's why I called to get info. on this product. I feel that if it's too good to be true, then it probably is! I also know what you mean about the emotions. On Zoloft, I feel nothing. I don't like that either. I guess it would be nice to find SOMETHING that can make you feel the right emotions at the appropriate times! The gentleman I spoke to about this product sounded TOO enthusiastic! Like you said,"Let the buyer beware!!! Good luck!

Are all these things linked? Depression, GAD, ADD, etc... It really seems like it. And one med leads to another. If the depression get better, anxiety might get worse. Then you might feel tired, leads to another med. And on and on. The brain is extremely complicated. Scientists haven't marketed a highly efficient electric/solar powered car, but they feel confident enough to market drugs that effect the brain. It just doesn't sound right to me. they do studies to make sure things are safe, but due to the complexity of the brain they can't possibly know everything about the substance's effects (long term especially) on it.
Or maybe I just need a med for anxiety ;).

hi bob,
i know what you mean, about the banal ads for SSRIs. but somehow, it may bring the person into the 'wonderful world of meds,' as it were...i was turned around when i started zoloft many moons ago now. it made me feel *much* better right away, like a matter of days. i felt better for a long time, gained 30 lbs, though... it didn't matter to me, seemed a small price to pay. zoloft pooped out about a year ago, and i also then had to re-negotiate my dx, which turned out to be not just dysthymia, anxiety, & chronic depression, but bipolar I.
i'm on a different regimen now: wellbutrin helped me lose all the weight i gained and keeps me up, the neurontin keeps me on an even keel, most of the time. but without that initial glimpse into a better world that the zoloft gave me, i wouldn't have continued on in a search for the right combination. and i do believe there is a combo/cocktail that will work, at least for awhile.
so the ads are moronic, but maybe have their place. doctors still have to do the prescribing, and consumer awareness is usually a good thing.
all the best,
wendy

It sounds like morphine to me. I'm sure others will say they think it's marijuana or MDMA.
BTW, there are clinical trials of Zyrem (R) for narcolepsy going on right now, if anyone's interested.
