Yes, I took Li as an augmentor to Remeron. It worked well, but I had side effects I couldn't tolerate.

Dave,I have augmented several SSRIs and an SNRI with Lithium and received no benefit. When I augmented the SNRI with Wellbutrin, it helped a great deal. But, everybody is different. Good luck.

Dave - Lithium augmentation of antidepressants is probably the best overall combination for the treatment of treatment-resistant unipolar depression. There is a lot of literature to back-up this claim. But, as with any drug regimen, "your mileage may vary". For some people the side effects of lithium are intolerable.

HI,
Has anyone had experience augmenting a tricyclic
with lithium. I tried augmenting PAXIL for about
a week but it didn't do much. The literature
seems to favor a tricyclic.Dave

What is an SNRI. Note: I too tried lithium with an SSRI, but it didn't work.

I believe a SNRI is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. Another chemical found linked to depression. A SNRI is a tricyclic anti-depressant. Like Wellbutrin.

I checked glaxowellcom.com and this is what they had to say about Wellbutrin (bupropion):
...antidepressant of the aminoketone class, chemically unrelated to tricyclic, tetracyclic, SSRI or other known AD agents. It is a relatively weak inhibitor of the neuronal uptake of norepinephrine, serotonin and dopamine and does not inhibit MAO. While the mechanism of action is unknown, it is presumed that this action is mediated by noradrenergic and/or dopaminergic mechanisms...
BTW, I had a grand mal seizure within 38 hours of taking Wellbutrin.

An SNRI is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, you're right, but Wellbutrin in not an SNRI. Reboxitine is one of the few pure SNRI's
