klonopin headaches?

Posted by bandolph on September 18, 2001, at 12:48:28

Anybody ever get headaches from klonopin? I know for a medical fact that headaches never happen to bipolar folks. Did that last sentence drip enough sarcasm? I use 2400 mgs of neurontin and last month my sleep problems intensified
so my p-doc put me on a single mg of klonopin. lately i have had a lot of day long headaches (not responsive to asprin or other over the counter pain pills.
Can the klonopin cause headaches?

I cannot answer with certainty whether or not Klonopin causes headaches, HOWEVER, I have been on it for like 7 years and have NOT had a headache caused by it. (I rarely even get headaches - knock on wood!) I did not experience any side effects aside from slight drowsiness when I first started Klonopin and have had no difficulties increasing it on "as needed" basis.

And for what it's worth, I have not heard or read anything that lists headaches as a frequently occuring side effect of Klonopin.

Both Klonopin and Neurontin are part of my med-cocktail, and I suffer from blinding migraines that respond to very few medications (Calcium Channel Blocker and Amitriptyline are my two most efficient pain-killers.).

Klonopin has never induced a migraine nor even the common garden variety headache. However, Neurontin definitely has, although it is being used to treat serious migraine suffer's pain with good success.

My P-Doc allows me to move my daily dosage of Neurontin around a bit, depending on how I'm feeling, although I'm not suppose to go under 1,200 mgs. When I get over the 1,800 mgs mark I see a quick return in migraines, and going higher creates more, both in number and in intensity.

The addition of klonopim could be triggering headaches, possibly aggravating something in the Neurontin combo, or alone.

You're taking the klonopin at bedtime, right? What kind of dose? AND, when do you take your last Neurontin dose? Neurontin has a fairly short half-life (4 hours max for me) and you could be experiencing headaches in conjunction with the lack of circulating Neurontin....

These are just some thoughts, I'm just sharing the direction I would look if I were in your shoes; and what I've learned during my own medication journey.

Hope you find relief!

I am taking 1 mg right at bed time. (it works cause I am sleeping well) >I take the newrotten at breakfast and then right after dinner.
Maybe I will talk to my doc about lowering the neurontin a little.
thanks for your advice.
