I have recently went off of Effexor XR and started taking Welbutrin SR. Is anyone else on Welbutrin...and if so, what do you think? The reason I switched was because of the sexual side effects associated with Effexor. Welbutrin doesn't have those side effects...in fact, it is supposed to increase your sex drive. I've only been on it for a week and haven't noticed a difference....I'm on a low dose, 150mg, and will be increasing to 300mg next week.

According to studies the sexual enhancing effect takes around 4 weeks to kick in.

Mia,
I've just made the switch. My sexual functioning has come back as I've decreased Effexor XR and come up on Wellbutrin SR. Yesterday my pdoc added 20mg of Celexa in the morning in place of my morning dose of EffexorXR. Today was my first day without Effexor and being on Wellbutrin and Celexa together.
So far so good. I know I can perform sexually again. My pdoc added the Celexa because of my obsession/compulsion.
The first week on Wellbutrin was the worst. I had a feeling like I was on massive amounts of Speed. Now it seems to have worn off. However, sometimes I have to search for the right word. I used to do that before Wellbutrin but it seems to be more pronounced lately. Also I have a massive will to get things done. I have not been this organized in my life ever!
All in all, so far so good. I hope you find the right meds for you. It's an adventure...That's for certain.

Been on Wellbutrin for several years, first at 150 SR x 2, recently (this week) had it increased to 200 SR x 2. It will clearly get you "speedy" for a bit, and may cause chest pain and tachycardia. These subside in a week or so, so don't give up too quickly if these arise. It's not a panacea for depression, but does lift your mood and increase your energy level. Another unfortunate side effect is that it can bother your sleep. You will eventually go to twice daily dosing. Try to take second dose at least 8 hours before you want to go to sleep. I take mine at 5:45 and noon. With food is better. Let us know how you are doing with it! :)

Thanks for the input. I'm on a similar dosing schedule as you. I get tired at night...Thank God.
This is week 3 on Wellbutrin. I'm not as speedy.
On Tuesday The pdoc had me start Celexa 20mg as my morning 6am dose with breakfast. I take the Wellbutrin SR 150mg at noon after lunch. I'll see him in a week and a half. I don't know if he'll have me jump up to 300mg/day of Wellbutrin if I'm on 20mg/day of Celexa. He says I need the Celexa to combat my compulsion.
I think that Celexa is fast acting because I already feel less anxious and less compulsive. Perhaps the Wellbutrin is kicking in more...? I don't know. However, this "cocktail" seems to be working for me.
I will certainly let you know how it goes. I'm not panicking. I'm staying the course. All of the suggestions on this board seem to stress patience with the meds. It seems you need to give them 4-8 weeks to see the full effects.
Thanks.

Hi
I am on 225mg of Effexor XR, have been for about 6 months. Of course I have the sexual side effects too. My doc added 100mg of Wellbutrin SR. I have only been on it for 2 weeks. I have tried to switch from Effexor to Wellbutrin, but had no luck...I need the serotonin. I will let you know how it works!Debbie
