Does anyone have information or anecdotals on the indications for the use of Valium Extended Release?
The benzos have always worked well for me in the past, but I've always had a problem with the duration of effect. Xanax and Ativan only last 2 hours for me and Valium and Tranxene only 3 hours!
The "pill-popping" behavior throughout the day really gets me down psychologically, having to excuse myself to "run to the water fountain or bathroom"--something that I don't experience with anti-depressants (with the once or twice-a-day dosing)
I can get 5 hours of effect from Klonopin, but that medication has a decidedly cognition-diminishing and mood-flattening effect that I DON'T LIKE!!
I don't notice much mention of Valium Extended Release at this site (or on the web) and I'm thinking that its use may be more for adjuctive treatment of seizure disorders, but I'm not sure.
I'm beginning to think I may be a "lifer" on benzos (I suffer from chronic GAD and social anxiety that really limits my life). I'm wondering if Valium ER would be the way to go. Thanks..., John

John,
I've never heard of Valium XR. There is a Xanax XR made by Upjohn, and I've heard great things about it, but it's only available in certain parts of Europe. I doubt it will ever be available in the States for several reasons, but if your pdoc gave you a script for it, it's possible that you could order it over the Internet. The problem is that since it's not available in the States, most American pdocs don't understand it, and, consequently, are unlikely to prescribe it.
