I've been doing a little updating here on my cocktail for dysthymia. It is currently Effexor XR 300, Wellbutrin SR 300, and .5 of risperdal.
I was at .75 risp and started having some involuntary muscle contractions, like when I would lay down to go to sleep. It got to be pretty significant, so I talked to my pdoc and dropped the dose back down to .5 again.
Pdoc and I figure that with wellbu lowering seizure threshold, and risp having a tendency toward those contraction thingies, the meds were interacting in an undesired way. A few days on .5 and it's already better.
That's all. Other than that, ok.

Risperdal may accelerate the action of antidepressants, so some doctors now prescribe it on top of SSRI's for that reason. Thus it may be very beneficial for you to continue on the Risperdal:

Risperidone augmentation of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors in major depression.
Ostroff RB, Nelson JC.
Spectrum Psychiatric Group, P.C., Hamden, Conn 06518, USA.
BACKGROUND: At low doses, risperidone acts as a 5-HT2 antagonist. Preclinical data suggest 5-HT2 antagonists may enhance the action of serotonin. This report examines the clinical use of risperidone to augment selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) anti-depressants in patients who have not responded to SSRI therapy. METHOD: In 8 patients with major depressive disorder without psychotic features (DSM-IV) who had not responded to an SSRI, risperidone was added to the ongoing SSRI treatment. Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression scores were obtained before and after the addition of risperidone. RESULTS: These 8 patients remitted within 1 week of the addition of risperidone. Risperidone also appeared to have beneficial effects on sleep disturbance and sexual dysfunction. CONCLUSION: Risperidone may be a useful adjunct to SSRIs in the treatment of depression.

Sal,
Thanks for the info. Since risp is the only thing that has worked in years I have no plans to give it up unless things worsen significantly.Dropping down to .5 helped. I'm keepin on keepin on with it.
