what about Buspirone ?

Posted by Sigolene on April 2, 2001, at 8:10:35

My hypothesis is that i have general anxiety, which is augmenting my depression. I say this because eache time i take a stimulation AD, of an SSRI, i become more depressed, probably due to augmentation of the anxiety.
So, i'm considering taking buspirone now, with an AD.
But i've read noting precise about buspar in the past threads. Did you try it, and what did you experiment with it ?
Thanks
Sigolène.

Like any medication, your response may be different that others.

My experience with buspirone has been negative. I have been on it three times (with different AD's) and despite my protest they keep wanting to try it.

For me, it hasn't worked and actually made my vegetative depression symptoms worse.

Different psychiatrists I have talked to have mixed opinions....although those that say it works use higher doses (45+ mg.)

I also had a horrible withdrawal from it ("brain shocks," difficulty thinking, etc).

Not to scare you, because I'm sure you'll hear posts from people who had a good response from it.

Hi,
i am currently on buspar. When i start an antidepressant my anxiety increases, but does get better with time. Recently when I switched to prozac the anxiety was really bad and I asked the dr for something, he gave me buspar. In a couple of weeks I was feeling better but I am not sure if it was the buspar or the antidepressant. This isn't much help but I have been on buspar and prozac for 2 month and I don't have severe anxiety anymore.
