My sister was started on Remeron thereapy today for depression
and phobic responses of several years duration. My sister has
been afraid to leave home for several years, especially
during warm weatrher because she fears all insects. She also
fears germs and numerous other things. Her depression has
increased recently due to a diagnosis of diabetes, and having
also suffered a stroke. Can anyone tell me if they have
been treated with this drug for similar purposes and if
so, was it effective? Thank you

Remeron is usually prescribed for major depressive disorders. I would think other medicines would be more appropriate for a combination of phobias and depression. Specifically Zyprexa or Risperdal. Could try each for about two weeks and then stick with the one that was liked the best, if either.
I'm not sure if Remeron will help the phobias or not. That sounds more like something the antipsychotics would be better for. Both of the ones I mentioned also happen to be very good antidepressants as well.

sounds like a reasonable strategy to me
