Does anyone know how safe it is to take clonazepam in the long-term? I am not concerned about dependency, providing the drug keeps working. My biggest concern is having the drug poop out, and then being left with even worse anxiety than I have right now. Is tolerance a big problem with this drug if used to treat Generalized Anxiety Disorder?

I read a few posts here where people mentioned having taken benzos for as many as 20 years. I share your anxiety (no pun intended) about the drug pooping out, that is why I thought I would try buspar.....just as insurance, if you will.
I wish I could be more helpful.Does anyone know how safe it is to take clonazepam in the long-term? I am not concerned about dependency, providing the drug keeps working. Hi,
I've been taking 6mg/day for over 3 years (except when pregnant) and yes I am tolerant but it works great for panic attacks (and has never 'pooped out'). My pdoc has patients on for over 20 years with no ill effects. He does run routine liver panels. I guess if a med gives you a decent quality of life, I consider that a success. I wish you well- Judy

Where is your doctor????!!! I have been taking Clonazepam for 8 months a prescribed dose of 1mg per night if needed. Well, it has been needed and the one thing I notice is it will work very well by itself, but then I started Wellbutrin and I had horrible sleep. It is the one drug that has worked for me and helped sleep and anxiety all at the same time. Why are these doctors so adamant to get me off it?? No one ever asked about my liver, but it is fine. I think it is a great drug and wonder what suggestions are for trying to get it through the thick skulls of my medical community that it has and is helping me . Why are they weaning me? Fear? Something legally? Any help is appeciated, Hope you and Erik don't mind that I wrote in. Thanks, Jacquie

I've taken 1 mg. x 3 day for over ten years with no poop out or dependency. There's use and abuse; that's the key with benzos (and I'm a working professional).

Hi Jacquie,
You have some ignorant docs. Mine is in LA- go to www.algy.com/pdi- its the bbs for Tapir. Read the FAQ and some of the messages (you'll find you are not alone), and ask for help finding a dr. in your area. Best of luck- Judy

Not wanting to sound really stupid, but will run the risk anyway what is "bbs" and "Tabir" Yes, my shrink is not greatest right now. Smart, but doesn't listen. I just wrote him as he charges for every minute and he is $300 per hour and I have no insurance. I hope not to get a bill for the letter! Thank you again. take care, jacquie
