This drug is used to counteract anticholinergic side effects of TCAs. I was told that the generic brand has been discontinued, and the brand name one (Urecholine) is in the process of being discontinued. Are there any substitutes for this drug? I´m tired of the anticholinergic side effects of my desipramine. Thanks.

I used to take Urecholine with Parnate in order to get rid of the urinary retention along with all the other anticholinergic side-effects. I highly doubt that Urecholine will be taken off the market. And even if for some odd reason it will, you can always get it from mail-order companies overseas....I suppose if you did have another choice besides Urecholine, you could take Flomax. That has the same effect of Urecholine, and no side-effects. Or you can switch antidepressants. I can't imagine being on desipramine for the rest of my life with its drowsiness. But it probably is good for insomnia and headaches though.
