I have been taking Effexor XR for about 4 wks. I started at 37.5, then 75, now 112mgs. I always take it at the same time each morning. It is not working for the depression so far. But what is worse is that the other day I had the weirdest experience. I could NOT remember where I had been just 5 minutes ago on my way home. It really took me a loooong time to figure it out! OMG!!
I have read that Effexor XR can cause short to medium term memory loss so I guess I'm experiencing some of it. Also, when I first began taking the drug, I would spring awake in the morning. Now it seems to take me a long time to "come around" and realize where I am and what I'm supposed to be doing. Anyone else experiencing this?

My memory-loss started fr/the very begining of starting effexor,it's become a real pain:forgetting to pay & mail bills,finish laundry,make imp phone calls,ect.Drives husband crazy !I was NEVER this bad !Dont know if it gets better or not, im weaning-off the AD at this time.

I find my memory is better on the Effexor XR, but what use is it since I have no motivation now??

Just the opposite here. I feel much more alert. Esp. compared to when I was on Celexa. I was very forgetful and unmotivated then. I definately like the way Effexor is working.

I think clearer on Effexor XR, too. I was trying to come
off of it for a couple reasons, but I had a terrible time thinking
clear and was having trouble getting things done.
Went back on 225mg and now I am better. I used to take
Elavil which made me so tired all I did was sleep and
told my doctor I needed something that would help me get
motivated to get out of bed and do what has to be done to
survive. Just the basics, making a living, taking care of my house,
etc. (This was after a divorce and taking Elavil for a long time).Now I find I can get much more done every day and have had really good results
with Effexor XR and do not experience any memory loss. My preoccupation
with my depression and suicide lifts and I can think about surviving and
solving my problems. Boots
