Sexual Side Effects of Celexa

Posted by marshino on November 2, 2000, at 12:56:45

Started 20mgs per day a week ago...can't achieve orgasm. Dropped dosage to 10...still can't. Will this subside? Had similar problem with Zoloft- 100mgs per day. Dropped to 50...no problem. People tell me I will like Celexa better than Zoloft...what do you think?

i am having the same problem -- am now up to 20 mg. it's been 2 1/2 weeks and i'm still depressed. can anyone give me hope that it will kick in soon? i've used it before with great success. does it ever stop working? also, i've noticed my mornings are the worst times, and i'm curious to see what difference it would make if i took my meds at night. i already take remeron 15 mg. at night but want to see if anything changes if i take celexa at night. is it safe to play around with the time one takes it?

I have been taking Celexa for about 3 months for OCD. I currently am taking 100mg (been up to 120mg but caused a little drowsiness). I have experienced some delay in orgasim but nothing severe. Sometimes it can be slightly annoying and other times it makes for a great time. I talked to my pdoc and he has given me 150mg of Wellbutrin to be taken the night of intercourse. I havent tried it yet but I probably will soon. Not too conerned about it but I thought I would try it out. As far as it working, you have only been on it a couple of weeks and only at 20mg. Depressed individuals do not have to take as much as people with OCD but you might want to discuss an increase with your doctor. Celexa (and most other drugs I have taken) usually work very quickly for me. I started feeling the Celexa working about 2 to 3 days after I started taking it but it would stop after a couple of days. I would then raise the dose and see if I could maintain an improvement. I did this all the way up to 100mg so it was a long and annoying process but for the past 2 months I have been feeling a lot better and I am glad I stuck it out. I have experimented and found that taking it in the late afternoon was best for me to get a good night sleep. It really calms my nerves and I sleep very well. I use to take it in the morning but every once in a while I would get a little drowsy (liek taking cold medicne, nothing too bad). My pdoc told me to try it in trials during different times of the day to see which is best. Everyone is different. Try it at night but talk to your doctor first. The side effects lessen with time (although the sexual side effect is still kinda there but definetly not as bad as the intial couple of weeks........it seems to get better every day) so hang in there. Talk to your doctor about Wellbutrin, Ginko Biloba, or even Viagra.....see which one works for you.....Good luck and hang in there for a bit........Celexa is an excellent drug....
