Med fade? Effexor XR + Prozac...

Posted by Racer on October 11, 2000, at 19:50:34

I've been taking 225mg Effexor XR and 10mg Prozac for about a year and a half now. Up to now, it's worked pretty well, but the last few days, maybe two weeks, I've been pretty dismal. Of course, there's a lot going on, lousy weather, no job, feeling rather hopeless about my employability, etc.

Has anyone here been on Effexor XR for a longish period and experienced a fading of its effects? Is this something that happens, or am I reacting appropriately to the world around me or am I just hopelessly screwed up?

Thanks!

Racer,
I'm on Effexor XR for more than a couple years now, with Wellbutrin. I would say that my response has never been spectacular, and for a long time it has just kept me out of the black pit and sort of anhedonic. Not high, low, just flatline.

My doc suggests another 100 mg of Wellbutrin in the afternoon but I always seem to forget it.

Racer, I've been on Effexor-XR for almost a year I think, and have found it quite helpful in decreasing OCD and depressive symptoms. Lately, with a recurrence of depression (after my mother's death, among other stressors), I started taking Serzone and Seroquel, which seem to have boosted the effects of the Effexor-XR. I suspect there's no magic pill which will completely eradicate depression, when life events keep happening, the weather changes, etc. But the meds hopefully can keep us from hitting bottom until things seem under control again. Like Shar, I've experienced anhedonia and a feeling of "numbness" on Effexor-XR, but that's preferable to the total feeling of being in a "black hole" that I feel without it.--Cindy W

I am currently on 225mg of Effexor XR. My doctor recently suggested adding Prozac to it, mainly to possibly help with weight gain I experienced from Effexor (he thinks the prozac may help me lose weight). How should I go about adding the prozac and how much should I go up to? Will this help with the weight gain? I've already tried Wellbutrin and had a horrible reaction.

thanks
