HYPOTHYROID SYMPTOMS

Posted by Jane Garibay on September 28, 2000, at 21:06:09

I AM A 50 YEAR OLD WOMAN WITH REGULAR PERIODS. I HAVE BEEN ON SYNTHROID SINCE I WAS 13 YEARS OLD,AND TOOK THE SAME DOSAGE TILL ABOUT A YEAR AGO WHEN I WAS CHECKED AT IT WAS FOUND I NEEDED MORE, I NOW TAKE .15 OF SYNTHROID DAILY. BECAUSE OF OTHER SYMTOMS I WAS ALSO PUT ON PAXIL 2O DAILY. THESE WERE MY SYMTOMS, VERY DIZZY, PANIC ATTACKS, LIGHT HEADED AND CONFUSSED. I AM MUCH BETTER NOW, BUT WONDERED WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF MY CASE. AM I DOING THE RIGHT THING? ALSO IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN I WORK OUT AT THE GYM ON THE TREADMILL AND STEPPER FOR ONE HOUR MY FEET FALL ASLEEP AS THEY DO WHEN I WALK PLAYING GOLF AFTER SEVERAL HOURS. IS THIS CONNECTED TO THE TYROID? THANKYOU HOW LONG SHOULD I STAY ON PAXIL?

I am also on thyroid meds, and a ssri similar to Paxil. I chose not to go on Paxil because of all the side effects I had heard about it, especially the leg problems. You may want to ask your doctor about changing to a different ssri. Also, thyroid is very touchy. Ask your doctor to do blood tests every week for a month. Finally, get a full blood work-up regarding menapause. There are so many things happening to your body at this time, you need to make sure the doctor looks at everything carefully. Finally, take your vitamins. Nothing can replace regular vitamins! Good luck.

>If you go to the links section at the top of the babble page you'll find a link to many forms of information on thyroid problems and solutions compiled by one of the babble regulars. I'm sure you'll find many of your answers there. There is also an egroup at egroups.com called psycho-babble-links that addresses those issues.
Good luck
hope this helps
