My problem is absolutely no sex drive at all. I have been on prozac for 10 years with very good results. Three years ago I also had a complete hysterectomy. I am taking estrogen replacement therapy. I am happily married, but I feel bad about my total lack of interest in sex. I have decided to go off the prozac hoping it will help. Has anyone else had a similar experience. Help...

If you feel you need the Prozac, hang on for a bit before you dicontinue it. There may be other options: other anti-depressants may have less effect on sex drive or it may be possible to add something to the Prozac to counteract the loss of sex drive. There was a discussion here about this in December, I think, and you may get some tips if you take a look at Dr. Bob's Psychopharmacology Tips
discussion group. Your own doc may have some ideas, or perhaps one of the docs here can comment. Another idea: is the lack of sex drive for the last 10 years, or only since the hysterectomy? If the latter, does your hormone replacement regimen include testostrone? Some women lose sex drive at menopause or after a hysterectomy because they no longer have the small amount of testosterone the ovaries produce. There are hormone replacement combos on the market that contain testosterone, so you might want to talk to your gyn if the problem dates from the surgery. Good luck!

I am a 23 year old female who has little or no sex drive, while I am not on an antidepressant presently, I am on Depo Provera. I am not sure as to why I have no sex drive, it bothers me daily, I have a boyfriend who cannot relate as he has a sex drive 24/7. I would love to be able to tell him why I do not feel like sex rather than saying that I just don't feel like it. I thought that being 23 that I would be in my prime for sex. I know that it is not him. I would love to know what options are available for women. Thanks

Neenah,
Depo can take away one's sex drive. Discuss with your doctor alternative means of birth control.
