I hope your first day was tolerable, maybe even good. Please let us know how it went.

Thank you. Monday was....I don't know what it was.
I got _no_ sleep Sunday night, 4mg Klonopin wasn't
enough to ease the anxiety.Monday morn I took my usual handful of meds and
drank 2 20oz coffees before I got to the office.
My immediate boss, the minor VP Jim (I call him
Jimmy cause he hates it), was very glad to see me.
My other co-workers were cordial, but distant.I made it thru a half day and left. After another
sleepless night, I am wimping out and giving myself
another week off. I may go in again some this week,
get my new office together, etc, but no pressure.

My boss has experienced, 2nd hand, depression and
its debilitating effects. He told me about it
yesterday. His mother died almost 2 yrs ago. His
father, in his 70's, grieved deeply. He cried and
just stayed in bed some days. Recently he had chest
pains and went to the hospital, was admitted and
had all the tests. His heart and arteries are fine.
After seeing a variety of specialists for other
complaints, he was finally referred to a pdoc.
Diagnosis: depression.

Harry, I'm sorry your first day of work was so difficult. It's good, though, that your boss has some understanding of how debilitating depression can be. You are in my thoughts, I'm visualizing strength for you! CarolAnn

> harry b,I am thinking about you and I know that this job will sort itself out for you. Thanks Judith. I hope it will, the mortgage is
due :( I went in (late) today and the place was a
madhouse. There are several projects due asap, everyone
is under the gun, tension is high, and tempers are
short. Not a good environment for harry. I left.Don't know if you knew but one of my hobbies is
flying. I'm in a limited partnership in an airplane,
and before you start thinking I must be wealthy,
think again. Rather than having a nice house and
furnishings, and kids, I have a few toys.I had not flown since December. When I left the office
I went to the airport. Just going there was good
for me. I used to hang out there every weekend, a
regular flying bum, and I hadn't even been there
since Dec. It was a beautiful day and I decided to
fly. All I did was shoot landings for an hour, but
it was good for the soul. So, instead of working,
I played.

Harry -
I'm sorry about work, I was really wishing that it would go better for you today (as I know you were, too!). I'm so glad you found some joy in flying, though! One of the really hard things with depression, it seems to me, is that not only do you feel like you don't have the energy to do anything "fun" (and sometimes can't even experience it), but it's really easy to forget what it was that you ever enjoyed in the first place. Good for you in remembering something that makes you feel good, and in getting out there and doing it!

Harry,
It sounds like you are handling everything very well. Pacing yourself, talking with your boss, flying, etc.I'm rooting for you, and learning from you. I will need a job (SOON) and I'm procrastinating and worried about going back "in."
Keep up the good work!

at this job while looking for something else. Get
some $ saved, see an employment counselor, maybe
get education/training in a different field because
right now this is the only thing I'm qualified to
do that pays enuf.

I've managed a temporary arrangement that will,
I hope, ease me back into my job.My boss has agreed to let me go to the office in
the evening, at night, or the wee hours of the
morning to put in my half-days when no one else
is there and thus avoid the stress level of the
normal working day. I did this this evening and
actually was productive. This can't last very long, but it is a beginning.

Sounds like a creative solution. I'm impressed.
Heck, if the supreme court feels they are doing their job adequately when making a decision that sends a man to his death without ever getting together to discuss it face to face, well, I would imagine most of the mundane work you or I do could be accomplished without face to face contact, too.
Sorry for the gruesome association. It is on my mind this morning, obviously.

Harry,
I am sorry for sticking my little commentary about the death penalty in on my response to your creative solution to your work issue. It was impertinent of me.As the late, great Gilda Radner used to say (or more accurately, her character Emily Latilla): "Nevermind!"
Have you tried your afterhours hours yet? How did it go?

my own moral beliefs.Only worked 2 evenings so far and it went OK. I
have to go in Monday morning to meet with the Exec VP,
that will be a lot of fun, not.
