This is a question posted to the entire community...in addition to depakote and neurontin, I'm taking seroquel and the fatty acids. Though nothing has been proven, some studies have shown it helps in refractory conditions? Pls. comment

Jeffrey,
I just read yesterday that EFA deficiency has also been proven in ADD. Some signs of deficiency are dry hair, cracked heels and fingertips, not to mention impaired cognitive function.
I'm going to give it a try. One reportedly good source is www.barleans.com, where you can buy organic oils.

There's a lot of information out there about the Omega 3Fatty Acids and most of it is fairly speculative and/or anecdotal. That said, there also clearly seems to be a connection between Omega 3's, mood, and a whole lot of other things. I e-mailed Dr. Andrew Stoll, the psychiatrist who did the study that's caused most of the talk. He answered me and said his research assistant would get back to me with info. That hasn't happened yet, and it's been quite a while. Maybe he hasn't been taking his Omega 3's.
So far the site I've found to be most helpful with regard to this subject and many others is borntoexplore.org. The woman who created and maintains the site is a scientist with an alleged ADD kid. You'll know what I mean by "alleged" when you go there. The more I explore this site the more convinced I am that Teresa Gallagher is one smart cookie who looks at issues from very wide perspectives rather than the tunnel vision POV of much of the medical profession.
I'm not knocking doctors--not completely anyway. I come from a professional medical family and I grew up believing doctors could be trusted. I've learned the hard (very hard) way that even those who are supposed "experts in their field" are often apt to self-involved nincompoops interested mainly in backing up their own theories. I don't have much use for them anymore.
Give me a smart, critical thinker motivated by concern for her kid. I'll put my money and mind there thanks.
Sorry this was so long. Gee, all you asked was a simple question.

Jeffrey - The one problem with fish oils is that they do not contain high enough levels of omega-3 fatty acids. You have to take quite a bit of fish oil to obtain enough and you begin to smell a little fishy (not the best cologne for the ladies or co-workers). Concentrated omega-3 fatty acids may pan out in future studies, but to date no one has made a good concentrate. Good luck - Cam W.
