Kick my butt

Posted by saint james on March 28, 2000, at 22:39:17

I mentioned a month or more ago I was in the ER with a hurt back and discovered I have hypertension, 170/122 on repeted trys. They are really conserned about the lower #. Met with my primary and discussed a consern I have about all the men (3) on dads side having anyrisims. This with all men being tall and most having skeletal problems suggests Marfan's. I kind of went out on a limb sugesting Marfans and am really more conserned about 3 men having the same thing. This seems to say real loud "Check this out" To my surprize doc agreed with me on the possibility of Marfans and actually knew alot about it. He also ordered a stress-echo which is the definitive marfan test; considering I am on an HMO and the doc is payed by capitation I was impressed. But.....

I still have not scheduled the test (now more than a month) and I can only exclude 12 days, when I blew the tranny in the Nissian 10 miles away from nowhere. I keep on playing this scene in my head... they start the echo and say "Don't get near that treadmill!" when they see my aorta. And I have been taking Dex all these years !

It is stupid that a 35 y/o man should have this level of hypertension and trigliserides over 1000 unmedicated. I allready have a great plan to start walking... 3 X a week walking down the driveway and back ( I'm rural so that means 1/4 mile roundtrip). Great plan, just need to do it ! I cannot take Dex until we look under the hood and check the plumbing so focus is at a minumim (I'm ADD with depression, the depression well controled by meds X 15 years)

So kick my butt, please. I know better than this. It's almost 2 months and I need to schedule this test (echo) It will answer a lot of questions. I also need to start walking. This will be time # 4 that I have to lose weight and I have been sucessful every time. This time I have educated myself and learned to cook to I will not be dieting so much as starting a new way of eating for the rest of my life. I have the power to avoid the triple bypass dad had.

James,
Please take care of yourself!
Nissan tranny problems? - sounds familiar.

James,

Sorry to hear about all this. Your many insightful posts have led me to believe you were doing quite well and being very generous in offering your knowledge to others not doing so well. I had no idea of the difficulties you deal with. I wish I had more to offer than support. You certainly have all my support and respect. Wishing you the best with each and every hurdle. JohnL

James,

Sorry that I can't kick your butt because you are SITTING ON IT! Anxiety related to health problems only tends to aggravate that health problem. There are a lot of people here that wouldd be very sad if something happened to you that could have been prevented.

You've dragged this out long enough and it's time to take care of yourself. I'm sure that all of the regulars here want you to take care of your health - both physical and mental.

Just do it, NOW! Pick up the phone today.

Bets wishes,
Chris

James-Get up, dial the phone, make that appointment and report back here TODAY!!

Didn't Abraham Lincoln have Marfan's? It's associated with depression isn't it?

It must be really scary to be living with the possibility of having something really wrong with you, but putting it off is not going to make it any better. Make the appointment as soon as the doctor's office is open !

Good Luck, AprilA.

James,
Your kind words and advice helped me out a lot a while back and I'm very sorry to hear about the problems you are currently having. I have a stress echo test scheduled for April 5th, and I am scared to death of what I'm going to find out. But I know it HAS to be done, and you need to find out as well. Get up off your backside and get this test scheduled! I don't know you as well as the others, but I want you to be happy and healthy. I will let you know how mine turns out and I expect you to do the same. Good luck and best wishes.
Greg

Dove here...

I am taking this opportunity to speak in a direct and forthright manner to St. James in regard to your essential, life-saving, and required test that you are putting off. You must get this done, and immediately rather than later. You know what you need to do, you have the guts and brains to save yourself a lot of harm, now just do it.

You have been on this board from the early days, you have put so much of yourself into people's lives, and now, we're going to put some of that right back at you. You are extremely blunt and direct in your messages and only deserve the same from those who care about you. We care about you!

We are watching and waiting. You better pick up that phone and take care of business, that if anyone of us wrote about, you would return fire in a rapid and heated manner. You would inquire as to why we're not using our brains. Do we not know anything, are we so blatantly ill-informed? Have we ever spoke to a doctor, and if so, why are we sitting around groaning and complaining.

Saint James, we're kicking your butt!

Maybe not blunt, how about, boldly honest :-)

James there,
Congratulations! I'm glad to hear you made your appointment. It's *almost* enough to inspire me to get on the phone and start calling Pdocs again. But I can't because I'm going out of town . . .
Let us know how your tests turn out--I've appreciated your posts.

... and waiting as well to make sure you actually go to the scheduled appointment! Don't think because May 28 is nearly two months away that we'll forget.

After all, I've got a four-day weekend right then -- I might just make plane reservations for me and my big ol' steel-toed boots on Southwest Airlines (if you're not afraid to fly, they'll change THAT for you!). ;^)

hang in there,
bob
