Any info would be gratefully recieved

> Any info would be gratefully recievedI tried Moclobemide once. I was a rare statistic in having a very bad initial reaction at just 75mg. My doc stepped in immediately and took me off it after just 2 days. That's VERY rare. However, prior to this I studied and researched everywhere about Manerix. Here's what I found out.
Some docs say it's wonderful. Some say it's weak. But the general consensus was that it is most effective at the top of it's dosage range. It's even more effective higher than the stated maximum dose. Some docs go over the limit with good results and no adverse reactions. The "normal" doses probably aren't enough based on what I've read. So just be aware that in general, not always, it seems to be a drug where the highest tolerated dose is where you can expect good response.
Side effects are supposedly more tame than SSRIs. No diet problems either. A common early side effect is irritability or jitteriness that is said to disappear completely in a couple weeks with continued use. Like any drug, there's that hump to get over in the beginning. The doc I saw said he regularly adds small amounts of just about any other AD out there (except other MAOIs) if needed for potentiation. Of course the label warns against that, but in practice it is being done.
It's a shame the USA will never have this drug. The doc explained this to me. It's patend will soon expire. Then it will become generic. Companies don't want to spend the millions of dollars needed to push a drug through FDA trials when it's just going to be a generic. Could be a great drug for you. That's probably why your doc chose it.

My pdoc feels that Selegiline (both the patch and the "doggie Alzheimer's" version) will renew interest in MAOI's among U.S. pharmaceutical companies.

> Any info would be gratefully recievedI have been taking Aurorix (in Australia) Moclobemide for about 4 weeks. I am finding that I have more energy, am less depressed, and have noticed an improvement in mood swings. Am taking 450mg. As I understand it, and have researched this drug alot - It is very effective in doses 450mg and above. I am gradually trying to increase the dose to 600mg. It is a drug that works well - but you have to be patient with it. Best of luck.

Nil side effects (SSRIs intolerable for me) and started to feel quite "happy" after about a month on just 300 mg. No hassles with diet restrictions either. Had to go off it unfortunately as Dr went out of town and no scripts - will start on it again.
However, this is in addition to taking Doxepin at night for sleep and GAD (over the years and effective for me as well)+ xanax by day (low dose) for panics/agoraphobia. All in all, I found that while I was on the Aurorex, I could finish the pack, no sweat - something I could definitely not do with the SSRIs, Effexors, etc.

I took Moclobemide succesfully for some time. It can be used up to
900 mg. Also, I have all info on augmentation of it, when it poops out.
MH, since you live in Australia, do you have over there Minalcipram (brand name Dalcipran or Ixel). It's a SNRI with no sexual side effects. I will appreciate your response.Anna

It's a new one on me, however, I think the closest med we come to that in Australia is Effexor (Venlaxafine). I assume that milnacipran (ixel) is used or still being studied in Europe (unsure), but, to the best of my knowledge, not approved here as yet.
Appreciate it if you could provide the augmentation info on Moclobemide that you mentioned.
Many tks

What I try was:
Aurorex + Dexedrine
Aurorex + Revia (Naltrexone)* (the best)
Aurorex + Revia + CytomelYou can find a lot of information about Naltrexone in other threads, and dr Bob's tips

> MHMH,
Naltrexone was a miracle pill for me. It's used for alkoholics by working on the opiate system.
Also, it's used as augmentation agent for people that loose response to antidepressants. There is a thread in Dr Bob's tips about loosing response to antidepressants.
And, trust me, it really works. You need to start from very little dose until your body adjustes (about 4 mg) and increase the doze slowly.
It combines well with Aurorex.Anna P.

Hi BF.Are you currently taking moclobemide? At what dosage? How long have you been taking it? What are you being treated for?
I am also interested in what strategies are commonly used to compensate for moclobemide poop-out. Moclobemide is notorious for requiring higher and higher dosages to maintain its therapeutic effect. Some people take 1200mg and higher. I don't often read of it being used successfully for the more severe depressions. However, I sometimes encounter stories of people with more moderate depressions or social anxiety who do well on it. It produces a therapeutic effect very quickly - often in the first week. For most people, moclobemide is almost without side effects. In Finland, it was the most often prescribed antidepressant, and may still be. In New Zealand, it fell from being prescribed often as a first choice to not being prescribed at all for lack of efficacy.
If you are unable to recapture an antidepressant response to moclobemide by either raising the dosage or augmenting it with other drugs, you might consider trying Nardil. Nardil is a non-selective irreversable MAOI, so adhering to the special diet will be necessary. I have been on and off the diet for years. It is not such a big deal. My gut feeling is that Nardil is more similar to moclobemide than is Parnate. Perhaps Parnate does not inhibit MAO-A to the same degree as does Nardil or moclobemide.
Moclobemide can work miracles for some people. I hope you are one of them.
Good luck.
- Scott
