Bush, head shops, economy, ventilation, star wars

Posted by Phil on February 26, 2003, at 12:49:41

I don't know when or why I started really getting outraged at politics but I'm pretty sure it was around the time Bush hit the White House. I need to vent due to only talking to my cat for two days.
1. Star Wars has never worked, that is proven. It takes $100,000,000.00 to do one test. Bush's answer: Let's get it up in space with no more testing. I guess he feels it's better than nothing even though it doesn't work.
2. A news website in Austin ran a poll today asking whether Bush is doing a good job with the economy. I freaked, it was a dead heat with 900 votes. Am I missing something? I guess there are a lot of Republicans in this state, huh?
3. John Ashcroft, I don't even like writing his name, in a continuing effort to keep our country safe from terrorist, decided to bust 50 online tax paying head shops????? Big news Ashcroft: People do drugs without the aid of headshops. He did this for the 'safety of children.' If they want to protect other's children, they ought to get out of office.

Thanks...just my opinion.

Are you saying you agree or that I'm wasting space by stating the obvious?

Well, I'm shocked and horrified by those $$ figures. But, with Georgie in his Playhouse, I should've spected as much.

Of all the gov. in all the states, the gov of Texas has the fewest powers. Texas is run by
a committee & the gov is more a figure head.

To put it another way, Bush has little experience
running a state, despite being the gov of TX.

Yep, Bush (even with his somewhat limited powers) brought Texas to its knees before he left. We were delighted that he went away. (Of course, it is a given that *not all* Texans felt that way, especially the rich Texans did not feel that way. They liked Bush.)

Hi Tina!

I'm doing pretty well, but am sick (again). I can't remember getting this many colds in one season. Plus the stomach flu! Yowwww!

I have two mid-terms this week... one tomorrow night in vegetable and flower physiology and one Thursday in greenhouse management. I'm kinda nervous. They're both 4-credit courses.

One thing I can tell you is that cauliflower is a stupid vegetable. Don't ever try to grow it.

On the other hand, flowers are great! (Ok, maybe I'm biased.) I'm growing 52 ivy geraniums, 72 purple wave petunias, and trying to germinate seeds of 73 different perennial cultivars as part of the greenhouse class.

I think we should all become greenhouse workers, at least in the winter. The added amount of light is great, the warmth is wonderful, and the green plants and flowers are the best sight of all especially after the winter we've had. I'd like to see statistics on greenhouse workers and incidence of depression. I'll bet it's low. If you have a chance, get yourself to a commercial greenhouse or to a conservatory. It helps. (End of sermon.)

I still have a boyfriend. It was pretty rocky for some time, but seems to be getting more better as well as more serious now... marriage and children come up in conversation fairly often. Who knows.

I was sorry to read about your and Greg's companies' shutdowns. Sometimes changes that come to us like this become blessings later. Maybe this is one of those.

Sending good thoughts for better times ahead for you and for Greg!

Love,
alli

well! It certainly sounds like you've got life by the horns. I'm glad you're doing so well and I agree with you about the flowers and growing things. Very therapeutic. Your activites are very ambitious and I'm quite impressed by all the stuff you're growing. I've never had the patience to garden. I hate weeding and watering and I hate bugs.
Best of luck on your exams. I'm sure you'll do well and I'm thrilled about the progress of your relationship. You go girl!
Keep in touch. It's so good to hear all your comings and goings.
take care Allison

ooh..sounds so wonderful. I once thought about horticulture as a career. I used to be greener in thumb but in recent years have had difficulty sustaining any houseplants. The test is that I was given a nice cyclamen recently and I've been able to take good care of it so far--it is actually continuing to bloom, much to my amazement! It is requiring very little care, of course, but so did the plants I killed.

During a few of my best years, emotionally, I participated in a community garden--that was so much fun! And it didn't hurt to be rolling in tons of yummy fresh vegies and herbs and able to give them away to friends and family.

Good for you!

Noa,
Maybe you can find another community garden to work in. Or maybe start an herb garden on a window sill.
One spring, I just put some soil in a plastic liner that came in a basket and grew grass seed in it.

I love cyclamen, but mine always end up looking sick. I think it's because they go through a dormant period, which is why the foliage gets sparse. I used to keep watering them, then they'd die. I haven't had one in a long time.

Wishing you all the best,
Alli
