This is just to let you know, as if you don't already, that this site has severe server problems. Any time of day, you are "waiting for a reply" or get told "try later" "server is not responding" etc. If and when you do get connected, information transmission gets interupted at 8% or 17%, again at 4some% and at 80% or 97% and then when that's done, you can actually access messages. Too bad because someone (Dr. Bob?) has obviously put a lot of work into developing this exchange and it could have been really interesting and useful.

I have also noticed that within the last few weeks especially it takes a real long time for the site to load and sometimes forever for specific messages to show up. It didn't used to be that way. Is this something to do with higher traffic at the site (as per statistics page)?

It could ... but I've also had this problem at all times of the day, not just "peak" periods. I'd place my money on the Java applet that loads/plays the music. I have the music turned off, but it still loads. I'm going to try disabling Java in my browser to see how that works ... but it'll take a number of new logons to really see if this is the problem area.
Dr. Bob -- does that applet read the on/off state after it loads? How about a script that handles it before the load? That would ease the burden on your server and cut the download time for those of us still waiting for DSL to arrive in our neighborhoods.
Cheers,
Bob

I've noticed that, too. Things slow down occasionally, but not more so than ny other site I am frequently visiting.
I ususally start scrolling down on the page while it's still loading, and when the java applet starts loading while I scroll, the rest of the page won't load. I just hit reload, and the entire page usually loads in no time at all. Those rare occations I cannot access a particular message, I just move on with my life & check it later.
I have a 28800 connection so things going a little slow is a daily routine... Maybe others with better connections find the contrast more disturbing.I agree that it probably is the music that is slowing thngs down, from what I've seen there's been all kinds of trouble with it.

Connecting and posting do seem sluggish the past few days...

Should have realized that turning Java off in my preferences does NOTHING about stopping the code from being downloaded. It just doesn't run. Ack! 8^P
