I just started Celexa. Ive tried many other AD's. Prozac seemed ok, but made me feel too tense. Im not sure about the Celexa yet.
I wonder what time other people are taking it. Morning or evening? I was advised in the evening, but I'm not sleeping well. I'd also taken Buspar with it at first for anxiety but that really whacked me out!! I want to stick with the Celexa and hope the headaches and sleeplessness are just because of the sinus infection I have. Does Celexa interact negatively with decongestants and/or Buspar?

I had fewer side effects than with many other antidepresants, however it didn't do much for the depression. I did take Buspar for a few weeks with it but it made me very edgy. I'm back on effexor now for the 3rd time!

Judi, did you find out if celexa mixes with decongestant (we sound alike!) and what time to take it? My only choices are when I get up 3-4 pm (my "morning") or later.

Judi, I have found that I also experienced trouble sleeping after 1 month on Celexa. I switched to morning and I am sleeping much better. I am also interested in the mixing with sinus/allergy medicine. I have been taking Phenclor because Claritin D stopped working. I have been unable to find anything about this older decongestant. I do experience some muscle twitching while at rest--noticed it before Celexa, but I don't like it. I also had headaches in the beginning but they seem better now too. Good Luck!> Judi, did you find out if celexa mixes with decongestant (we sound alike!) and what time to take it? My only choices are when I get up 3-4 pm (my "morning") or later.

Beth now WE sound alike! Sounds like our messages merged or something. I have been taking celexa about 1 week, at a tiny dose, 1/4 20 mg. tablet. I am taking it when I get up, around 3:30 pm. It is exacerbating many of the symptoms I have anyway from illness: dizziness, stopped up ears- "ocean sound" type dizziness in ears/brain which is a horrible sensation (does anyone else ever get this), off and on intense nausea, jumping out of skin sensation, worsening the cognitive dysfunction like feeling "blank", not being able to find words, processing thoughts slowly, and the fatigue. My sinuses and allergy symptoms are miserable right now; I don't know that that is related to the Celexa and i continue to take Pseudophedrine, Flonase and Saline. Even worse than the dizziness which is bad, all of a sudden my pain medication stopped working and the pain all over is barely tolerable, I almost cannot stand it. I don't know if the celexa doesn't combine well with my pain med or if changing to generic made a difference or if it just stopped working. I haven't been on it long enough to build up a tolerance. I think the celexa interfered with my sleep at first, now not as much; this is difficult to judge because my sleep disorder is severe and many variables affect my sleeping. So I think I'll give the celexa one more difficult week before making any decision, and bother my doctor yet again before my appt. time to help with the pain.

I tried Prozac, Celexa, Effexor, Paxil, etc. and MAOI's. I often responed well to the meds but nothing would stick. We tried all kinds of combinations and augmentation strategies but nothing would give more than short term relief and sometimes the side effects seemed worse than the depression. I discovered the following in the Psychopharm Tips area and it has changed my life!! I am presently on 20 Prozac and 25 Naltrexone. Might be worth a shot...
Subject: Naltrexone for SSRI poop out
Dr. Lee Dante wrote, in part:
This phenomena of the SSRI "poop out" can usually be reversed by adding 25 mg of naltrexone (marketed in the US as Revia), usually on top of supper to avoid transient nausea. In anywhere from two weeks to five of once daily dosing the SSRI regains the full effect and often is perceived as working better than it did at first. I have done this in over forty cases where this has been most gratifying. At this dose of naltrexone the incidence of side effects is very low, and the improvement is sustained over a period of years. It has been the end of poop out in my practice.Best wishes, Wayne

How did things turn out with your Celexa trial? Have you tried other a-d's that are less likely to cause dizziness?

Matt, thanks for asking. I am just now "lurking in" and saw your message. I gave up the celexa, am not currently taking an antidep. The pain medications keep causing intolerable side effects but the pain I am in is also close to intolerable at times...this is even worse for me than my depression and I am seriously sleep deprived (years, it's horrible). (Pain and sleep disorder, dizziness etc. from CFS/Fibromyalgia, allergy, other...) It was difficult to differentiate between illness, other medications and celexa although the celexa did seem to exacerbate sleep disorder and dizziness, etc.; I'm trying to find a pain medication that will impact my pain a little but the only one that did caused all those other problems. Yes, I have been on many, many, many antidepressants......very drug sensitive! Whole situation causes more depression..so thanks again for asking.
