Doctor, can you email me about PTSD in wife abuse applications. I survived just barely four minutes not breathing when my husband tried to kill me. He plead guilty to assault and uttering death threats and breach of probation. Now I cannot function and would like testing although agoraphobia keeps me trapped inside my home. This Ganzer's Syndrome sounds strange -please explain what it means.

Hi Jody,
I'm not a doctor but I can tell you that
traumatic stress disorders (such as you would
seem to have) are definitely treatable, with
supportive counseling and sometimes also with
certain medications. I think your first priority
is to start getting this kind of support--if
you are not sure where to turn, you might consider
contacting a local women's crisis center or
similar group by telephone. Hopefully, some
action has been taken so you don't need to
needlessly worry about your husband too.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure I've heard
anything about "Ganzer's syndrome", but what's
probably most important now is just to find
a setting where you can start putting your life
back in order again. You've obviously been
through a lot, but things can and will
get better! Best,
J.D.

(Whoops--This is just an empty message, since I
meant to put "women and PTSD" as my above
message's subject heading so other people would
know what the thread was dealing with...) --JD
This is the end of the thread.
